Mike Hosking: Morrison has it right on Australia's climate policy

On a day when yet again we were digesting a report into how buggered the earth is, driven, they claim, by climate madness.

And on the day we were working out how come we didn’t have any power on a cold day.

Across the ditch, Scotty from Marketing was once again refusing to commit to zero carbon by 2050.

And in his stance is the Realist vs the Theorist.

We, of course, are part of the theorist cabal.

We’ve got the law, made the promise, so we will be part of the group that yet again fail to deliver.

And in that failure is part of the problem.

It’s not that we don’t recognise the issue or accept the issue, its just we don’t have the fortitude or the understanding on how to do something effective about it.

So we make weird promises, most of which don’t come to pass.

This is why we should admire Scott Morrison, because at least he’s honest about it.

He’s not, to quote him, writing a blank cheque for a plan with few details.

It’s not a bad point.

Having watched Kyoto fail, having watched Paris fail, why bother paddling with the idealists when the world actually has more pressing issues like Covid to deal with?

Also helping the Morrison cause, so much so in fact it won him the last election, is the cold hard truth that, rightly or wrongly, some of the stuff the scientists worry about is making Australia rich, or at least in the Covid era, preventing them going bust.

Iron ore has never been more expensive, and Australia has never sold more of it.

Coal remains huge and next cab off the rank, given the so called EV Era, will be lithium and rare earths, both of which Australia has.

Meantime back here, we’ve canned oil and gas exploration.

Our gas supply is tragic, we are importing coal and the lights go out on a cold night.

But isn’t it reassuring we are on the scientists’ side, even though ultimately, it will mean little, if anything.

Frustrating thing is that all this alarm is made because of trace atmospheric gases, CO2 which represent 0.004% out of which 3 % is produced by humans and CH4 - methane, which represent 0,00017% in atmosp here. It seems that the old saying " The world wants to be deceived, so let it be deceived" is sadly very true.

Also I see National have joined the State of Fear party.
A simple look at previous apocalyptic scenarios from the IPCC will show that they never actually occur.
Fact:- world temp has gone up by 0.8 degrees over the last 120 years. This is due to planet earth coming out of a Little Ice Age 200 years ago.
There has not been any increase in extreme weather events over the last 100 years.
Seas have been rising steadily at about 2 mm per year - not increasing.
No climate refugees yet (IPCC predicted 50 million by 2013 )
Artic Ice is still there, sorry Al Gore you said all gone by 2013.
No Emergency
