Rt Hon Winston Peters: Media Misrepresentation, Inconsistency, And Dripping Bias

Many in the mainstream media have taken what was said in New Zealand First’s State of the Nation Speech in Palmerston North on Sunday and deliberately, deceitfully, and ignorantly misrepresented what I said and why I said it.

The headlines and commentary on the news stated that I compared ‘co-governance to the holocaust’. This line has been repeated over again.

The blatant misreporting and subsequent outrage from some journalists is not only a disgraceful example of journalism, but yet another example of blatant political bias.

Here is my full quote referring to the Māori Party Co-Leader Rawiri Waititi’s previous comments about Māori having ‘superior genetics’:

“It was not just ideological theory, it was race-based theory. Where some people’s DNA made them, sadly, according to these people, and condoned by their cultural fellow travellers, their DNA made them somehow better than others.

I’ve seen that sort of philosophy before, I saw it in Nazi Germany, we all did. We have seen it elsewhere in the world in the horrors of history, but right here in our country tolerated by the very people whose job is to keep the system honest.”

There was no mention of co-governance or the holocaust.

The clickbait low-grade journalism being shown by some in our media is an insult to the public of New Zealand and to their very own profession.

The dripping bias and subsequent outrage surrounding their self-determined inference of a comparison to the ‘holocaust’, ‘genocide’, ‘white supremacy’ and ‘dictatorships’ from these journalists, is writ large in their inconsistency when reporting on others.

* Co-Leader of the Māori Party Debbie Ngarewa Packer said this in her maiden speech - "I stand here as descendant of a people who survived a holocaust, a genocide, sponsored by the House and Members of Parliament…”

* The Māori Party shared a screenshot of another users post on Instagram which described the Government parties as ‘white supremacists’.

* The Māori Party described the Government’s repeal of the smokefree reforms as amounting to ‘genocide’.

* RNZ reported on the Posie Parker event quoting the executive director of Auckland Pride saying – “When you look back at Nazi ideology of the 1930’s, those things are very much aligned in terms of eradicating rainbow communities from public life.”

* The former Green MP Gholriz Gahraman posted a photo on social media, whilst attending the Posie Parker event and her accompanying words - “So ready to fight the Nazis” – referring to Posie Parker and the Women’s rights protestors.

Where was the outrage shown by those in the media about these examples of direct and specific comparisons to the ‘holocaust’, ‘genocide’, ‘Nazis’ and ‘Nazi ideology’?

And when did they media rush down to the Synagogue and ask about these statements? Not one of them did.

Not once in my speech did, I mention anything of, nor made comparisons to, the horrific holocaust or genocide, nor did I compare it to co-governance.

I stated a fact that Waititi made public comments about a certain race and ethnicity having superior DNA to other races and ethnicities in our country – and that we had seen that before, knowing that is the seed of division, racism, and the ‘horrors of history’. That statement I made is a fact.

The moment you argue that one race has superior DNA to other races you're leading to awful racial consequences.

I'm not backing down one iota. I want everybody in this country no matter whether they're here for 1000 years or here yesterday legally to be treated the same - equally as one people.

I make no apology for that.

Winston Peters is the Deputy Prime Minister (Until 31 May 2025), Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Minister for Racing. He has worked as a primary and secondary school teacher and has practised as a Barrister and Solicitor, including in his own law firm. This article was first published HERE

Winston is being too lenient on the left actually. Look up any history channel about how the nazi's brainwaahed their youth in school with indoctrination about race theory. The german kids were taught that successful jewish people were taking over german society in all areas and eroding the german culture and the old ways of doing things. Fast forward to nz in 2024.. School kids are taught critical race theory, that paheha are to blame for eroding their culture and success in life. Newshub interviewed a teen from freyburg high who said that pakeha want to take away their culture and rights. Debbie packer, the irish woman from te pati has praised the high school kids on her fb page for standing up for their rights and mana. This activist knows that they need the kids votes, which is why the left are always pushing for the voting age to be lowered to 16.
The msm choose to blame winston as he wants their lefty funding gone, so they attack him rather than tell the truth.

The gutter press at its most toxic. Well said Winston.

Absolutely, 100% correct.

Biased, twisted, gutter MSM journalism right from the start that has attempted to obfuscate WP’s important message in defence of liberal democracy in New Zealand.

Winston, your government should not give a penny of taxpayer's money to the corrupted woke left wing pretend journalists. We've had to listen to their Labour propaganda and racist bullshit for the last few years. The bastards have no regard for the NZ public, they are only interested in their own selfish agenda. Kiwialan.

Bravo Winston.
Full support.

The MSM is a disgrace to NZ. It should be erased for its bias and lack of integrity.

Where is support from the Minister of Broadcasting?

Winston, you are fighting the good fight and that's why the left controlled media despise you. Great work.

I have a suggestion, as you are in a position of power, get rid of them ( the media) and certainly those who write lies NOW!

Most of us have had a gutsful of nzs biased media and we hope their demise is as painful as the bs they and lies they have given us the good public. Then Winston, please turn your attention to the tertiary institutes. Their agendas should be in question also.

Go Winston you have the vast majority of nzers with you mate

Excellent article, Winston Peters. I totally agree.

Well said, Winston. Do not back down, as you won't. The media are nothing but a bunch of leftwing liars. Stick to your guns and please give a few to Mr Luxon.

I have stopped subscriptions to all newspapers and have not watched NZ TV news channels (any channel) for a long time. I think the media in general needs to go bankrupt before we can have a new, reliable, responsible, unbiased, educated reporting on current affairs.

If Luxon and Seymour had any spine they would have come out immediately to support Peters. The fact Luxon even disagrees with how Peters framed his comments should worry all New Zealanders. Anyone who disagrees with Peters’ comments is, by default, undemocratic. Bottom line, the Maori Party are racists. The fact their party even exists makes them so. They are ignorant, inflammatory and hypocritical activists; the very institution they object to is the same one they’re happily troughing about in. If they want Maori to be separate then fine - let them, but that should mean separate taxpayer revenue too. They can’t have it both ways.

Excellent article.
Well said, Winston. Your observations are right on the mark.
We are all fed up with vile accusations from Debbie Packet et al, accusing us of genocide and holocaust. And the pathetic media cow towing to these racists.
Keep up the good work, Winston !!

Why are we taxpayers contributing to comrade Ardern’s wonderfulness after she personally created this racial divide. We were proudly one people and the envy of the world. We Pākehās and Maori bros worked together, played sport, socialised, married and were proud of our unique Maori heritage. Not now, the vitriol is palpable and destroying what once was. $800,000 to produce this monster’s story, is grossly inflammatory to fair minded kiwis.

Well said, Kiwialan.

Well stated Winston. While you have them on the ropes I suggest that you have a wee word with Melissa to ensure that there is no likelihood of any taxpayer bale out of any MSM.

Well said, Rob Beechey. (STILL no facility to upvote on this website!)

When I grew up we were ‘colourblind’ - no matter what colour, we were all just “us”.

A pox on Jacinda and all the Māori activists that supported her.

”I'm not backing down one iota. I want everybody in this country no matter whether they're here for 1000 years or here yesterday legally to be treated the same - equally as one people. I make no apology for that”.

This is why I voted for you Winston, and I make no apology for that.

The concern or weak links appear to be with Luxon and Seymour. I hope that those who voted for them but agree with you, put pressure on them to get with the above programme.

We the people are over the WOKE language and WOKE agenda that has been forced down our throat by the DARK SIDE.

We are right behind you Winston. Your govt. must get rid of all TV1 personnel and replace them with a group that will produce balanced news, with not a word of Te Reo in sight. The School curriculum needs urgent attention. When are you going to change all govt dept. names back to English only? Many other changes can be made quite quickly.

Very similar to the President Trump "bloodbath in the auto industry" that was twisted to mean a bloodbath if he does not win the 2024 election.
Again disappointed in P.M. Luxon and his uninformed comment in reply to a "journalist" question. The Captain of the team supports.

As others have written please do not support any support for the MSM.

PS. Very pleased I voted for you - you have meet all my expectations.

Thank you Winston. Debbie Ngarewa Packer said: "I stand here as a descendent of a people who survived a holocaust, a genocide, sponsored by the Members of Parliament..." After I shifted from Te Wai Pounamu to Te Ika a Maui (South Island to North Island Debbie) over 60 years ago, my workmate Tai told me that "he was glad the English got here when they did because if they had not, we would have eaten each other up before now". A genocide, Debbie! I think that you will find that the "holocaust" was caused by - wait for it Debbie - Maori, over 60,000 of them died!

Don't stop Winston. Glad I voted for NZ First. And As I have said before on this blog I was a founding member of the Greens.

Thank you Winston. I am so pleased I voted for you.
I also voted for David because he plans to challenge our depraved educational institutions into which Winston puts less emphasis .

The ideology forced on students in our schools is as destructive and damnable as that in the media as mentioned by other contributors to this blog.

You almost wonder whether Winston deliberately put the Nazi reference in his speech, knowing the reaction it would illicit from the MSM, and giving him the perfect opportunity to go after them.

A plan so cunning you could stick a tail on it and call it a weasel...or should that be call the MSM weasels.
If so, what might be his next step, I wonder.
