Clive Bibby: Who are the biggest emitters of greenhouse gases?

No doubt the Greens will be using parts of this 1News reportWho are the biggest emitters of greenhouse gases?, to continue their lambasting of our community for not doing enough in mitigation of Climate Change.

Actually, l hope they do because it will show them up as the hypocrites they really are.

But we should not be fooled into thinking that Climate zealots of their persuasion operate a very disciplined selection of areas where we could do better.

The above report is, as you would expect, indeed very SELECTIVE  in the way it presents the problem and how we should respond to the immediate threat it supposedly poses.

For example, it lists livestock emissions as the biggest single contributor to the Nation’s greenhouse gas emissions and offers a simple remedy that involves cutting the throats of our number one export earner.

Whether you agree with this analogy or not is somewhat irrelevant when considered as a viable option in relation to the Nation’s future economic well-being.

In that context alone it should be consigned to the trash can allowing this debate to progress using only policies and programmes for reduction that are effective yet not associated with such draconian consequences.

Some scientists argue that livestock emissions are a positive part of the carbon cycle essential in the maintenance of our productive capacity at such high levels.

Contrast that with the Greens’ rant that we need to take drastic action to eliminate them from our environment altogether.

Clearly, that is not in our interests and should be discarded in favour of other options listed in the report.

So, what are those other options and are they realistic alternatives that we can adopt as our contribution to a better way of doing things.

The report lists “managed retreat” as a viable option and one that l believe is a very appropriate remedy for many rural communities faced with the less palatable consequences of Climate Change.

Here’s how it could work for regions like ours that have traditionally depended heavily on income from Livestock and Forestry industries for their survival.

It is fair to say that, at least here on the East Coast, dependent communities have reluctantly accepted that those two industries will have to downsize in an attempt to bring their activities back to a sustainable level - more in harmony with the environment.

This significant change will undoubtedly have a flow on effect that will see a quantum reduction in the earning capacity of the Forestry and Livestock Industries away from the Hill Country, replaced with increased production of non pollutant exportable crops grown on an irrigated 18000 hectares of the Poverty Bay Flats - arguably some of the most productive soils on the planet and a largely unused resource that has the potential to make this province the most prosperous in the Country.

Obviously, this change will take time and large amounts of Government funds.

But the good news is that we at last have a government committed to this type of solution and with that backing, these visionary plans are eminently doable.

But don’t expect the Greens to give any credit for the way sensible kiwis are responding to this serious problem.

Whatever, we can do it in spite of them and we will!

Seen the recent photos from the new "methane" satellites ?

Forget about animals discharging methane, look at the rubbish tips around the world - enormous clouds of methane !

And don't forget the very quiet down sizing of methane damage from 28x CO2, by the IPPC, to only 7x.

Methane ? No, I smell a rat.

Has anybody thought to ask the Greens just how must carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is too much? Before Europeans went to populate North America, it was thought that there were 60,000,000 to 120,000,000 bison (nobody thought to do a headcount) wandering around there, all belching and (aah) breaking wind. They have been reduced to something like 300,000 now. What a massive saving! Now here is one for you, Greens. There are seven trainloads of coal per day consisting of 30 wagons per train, each wagon containing 30 tonnes of coal, taken from the mines of Westland to Lyttelton to fuel coal fired power stations in Asian countries. If the Greens could stop that, we could turn the transalpine into a cycle and walkway from Lyttelton to Greymouth, and points beyond! How about that, Greens? Tell this to the school children!

In light of your research nd posted comment, I wonder how long it will take the NZ Green Party 7 co-horts to push agenda's, for implementation here in NZ, just as their counterparts in Belgium, Holland, Germany & Poland are doing, which has had the Farming Community of those Countries protest (using Tractors, blocking roads etc) against the insanity being promulgated by the EU Govt and endorsed by Green Party factions in the Countries mentioned.

Not to be out done, The State Govt of The State of Oregon -USA - of recent has tried to implement Policy that would impact on both the farming community and those small property holders (those who produce food products for general sale) - one wonders if they had been looking at Europe- - but at last report - they have 'shelved said Policy' for review - as my source stated, 'for implementation by the back door'.

I like my milk & Beef - long may the Dairy & Beef Industry reign.

Man is part of the planet. i.e. part of the environment. He does not stand alongside it.

Before we take any steps to change our part in the environment let's have a serious look at what changes should be made, what part humans play in that environment and a very serious look at what would be best for the environment - and not just what would be better for the few who demand the right to tell the majority what to do.

If despite real scientists proving that atmospheric carbon is in fact low and could do with doubling, if not tripling, therefore greening the planet thus providing more food and shelter to the animals living on the planet, it is decided that some animals have to be killed for the environment to thrive I remind you that man is an animal of the planet.

I suggest the first animals for the slaughter should be the environmentalists.

Make no mistake. When the most influential multinational corporations, the world’s largest institutional investors including BlackRock and Goldman Sachs, the UN, the World Bank, the Bank of England and other central banks of the BIS line up behind the financing of a so-called Green Agenda, call it Green New Deal or what, it is time to look behind the surface of public climate activist campaigns to the actual agenda. The picture that emerges is the attempted financial reorganization of the world economy using climate, something the sun and its energy have orders of magnitude more to do with than mankind ever could—to try to convince us ordinary folk to make untold sacrifice to “save our planet.”

There’s an good summary on the BBC website of scientific work being done to reduce methane emissions from livestock – web search "how New Zealand is reducing methane emissions from farming"

And to get an idea of the views of the insurance industry, I went to the website of the Insurance Council of New Zealand (I just web searched the name) and used their search tool to search for "climate change" Interesting reading – it’s no surprise that when it comes to hard-headed business decisions, the insurance industry aren’t ready to bury their heads in the sand.

First thing first,
Billie Gates is of course in favor of deminishing CO2 emission. That is one good reason for him to fly around in his super duper (electric ?? )Yet.
Consuming 1600 liters kerosine ( of course, non emitting CO2 fuel ) per hour.
Then what if the Greens are really having usable brains, they read Proper science .For instance what NASA and Ian Bradford come up with.
And what about the herbivores roaming the African planes.
Has our latest Dame mentioned that one?
And all the volcanos spuwing CO2 into the air, is she going to dump loads of concrete into the holes to stop that?
Producing cement cost the emission of CO2.
The climate change is just a load of BS.
