Garrick Tremain: Te Reo lessons

 Here is Garrick Tremain's cartoon commentary on Christopher Luxon's te reo lessons!

I looked up the Māori dictionary: manapori is the Māori word for ‘democracy’ or ‘democratic’.

A pre-european Maori lexicon contained only 700 words.
Now we have many thousands created on the fly without any consultation.
Are learners of te reo expected to keep up with this week's tranche of new "words".
Luxon has got far better things to do than this woke hobby.

re Anon 10.41, if and when the msm decide to go with the prevailing flow, now revealed as the public shake off fear of cancellation, their field for comment and criticism wil be near inexhaustible. Recently one of the early maori lingo commissioners was on the RNZ Wilcox Sat lunchtime bore. He explained that the first year or two was spent inventing words...

RA: modern Hebrew also needed to create new words during its revival in the late 19th and early 20th century in order to bring it up to date. It’s a normal part of language revival.
