Police are treating the painting over of a rainbow crossing in Auckland this morning as a hate crime.
[…] In a statement, Auckland City Central Area Commander Inspector Grant Tetzlaff said police made a number of enquiries into the incident on Thursday afternoon and founds [sic] some items of interest.
Officers had raided a property in Flat Bush, which was linked to the owners of a vehicle involved, he said.
Wow, if only the cops were that keen when it came to, I don’t know, finding the kids doing ram raids.
[…] “We are aware of the hurt and confusion from the community at what has occurred and we want to reassure the public we are committed to holding those involved to account,” Tetzlaff said.
Hurt and confusion? It’s a crossing, FFS. The cops here are getting more and more like the Pommie ones every day.
“Police have no tolerance for reports of this nature, which appear to directly target a particular sector of our diverse community, and we are treating this as a hate crime.”
Meanwhile, Auckland Transport said they could have crews out to remove the white paint spattered over the Karangahape Road rainbow crossing as soon as tonight.
Hear that? Crews out tonight! All that and still keeping the trains running on time and the traffic flowing. Oh, wait…
[…] Meanwhile, Police Minister Mark Mitchell has expressed his frustration at the covering of the Karangahape Road rainbow crossing in white paint.
[…] “I am frustrated yes … the last thing I want to see is police officers having to deal with that sort of nonsense so whoever is doing it should stop it.”
Well why don’t you tell them not to deal with it then and treat it as a simple case of vandalism?
[…] ACT leader David Seymour has criticised the vandalism of the Karangahape Road rainbow crossing and said such behaviour was not a valid expression of opinion.
Seymour said, personally, he thought the rainbow crossings looked pretty cool.
With all respect David, go f**k yourself. You’d have at least some credibility if you had actually spoken out like this in support of the Jewish community and the “From the river to the sea” call-for-genocide slogans.
The argument for the crossings as far as I know is that they are there to make the “rainbow” community feel accepted, as if anyone apart from the wokesters in Auckland Council give a crap. But, as I wrote about last week, only one in five autistic people feel accepted. So where are the welcoming crossings for them? And remember there are at least 96,000 people with autism in New Zealand, and that’s not counting those undiagnosed. That’s a whole lot more than those who can’t make up their mind what gender they are.

All very good points Kevin. The rainbow movement has proven to be an intolerant group of hypocrites supported by politically woke hypocrites. This hilarious crime of the century to desecrate their precious symbol of intolerance was carried out as Basement Biden announced that Good Sunday has now been officially dubbed “Trans Day.” You just can’t make this shit up.
Well said. Police need to get their priorities sorted.
Our publicly owned roads are no place for minority groups of any kind to make political statements.
A hate crime. Hardly.
Never did I think I would be supporting the actions of the destiny church.
The LGBTQ flag is NOT a rainbow as it only uses six colours, omitting indigo from the flag. This colour is known for being a symbol of integrity, something that is missing from a community built around pride.
The LGBT community uses a ”multi-coloured flag” that falls short in every way….especially in what it represents, and then dare’s to call it a RAINBOW.
Where the hell do councils get off in painting crossings “multi-coloured”, hang multi-coloured flags down main streets, all at great expense to ratepayers and all done without consultation with their ratepayers?
The police believe that painting over a multi-coloured decoration on a road crossing is a hate crime but painting over the Treaty of Waitangi at Te Papa is not?
Seymour and co and Mitchell and co had better get their priorities straight and stop chasing rainbows.
Great article and points made Kevin. Agree with Rob Beechey, you have perfectly summarized imo.
Interesting..
Remember The thug who punched a 71 year old lady three times in the head, leaving her with long term injuries, at the Posie Parker meeting?
Did the Police or courts describe this as "hate crime?"
Of course not!! The perp got away scot free, no conviction.!!
Any attempt by the police to find the perpetrators of massive graffiti anywhere in NZ and bring them to justice ?
Is Auckland council out in the middle of the night over painting walls ?
Mind you they would have to close Auckland motorways every night to remove the graffiti which motorists observe being applied. Hmmm, are the cops calling for dashcam footage to identify the perps ?
No, this rainbow crossing crap is purely political - Council pounamu wearing wokesters vs ordinary citizens.
People who supported Homosexual Law reform and have been comfortable with friends and workmates of different sexual orientation all their lives, are now feeling embarrassment and downright contempt for these daft buggers who have made this identity their raison d'etre and run around waving their flags. Get a life you idiots.
Wha tis the legal standing of these crossings? If I bowl a pedestrian (even a straight one) would it be an offence? I too am sickened by the effort Police spend on these issues. it is exceeding dificult to get them to act on issues affecting ordinary folk. They do not remotely resemble the helpful force of the 1960s and earlier.
I am a bit confused because I am under impression that the NZTA regulations stipulate that pedestrian crossing must be marked on the road as white stripes and alternating black strips. Therefore why are these multi coloured "crossings" not illegal?
Following on from anon above, here is a copy and paste from NZTA website:-
"Roadway art is permitted under the Land Transport Rule: Traffic Control Devices (2004) provided that it:
is installed in a lower risk environment (vehicle operating speeds of 30km/h or less after the art and any other features have been installed)
does not resemble and is not similar to an official road marking or sign (traffic control device), roadway art should not be confused with give way markings or zebra crossings for example
does not mislead road users about the meaning of any traffic control device (official sign or marking) and
is not part of or visually integrated into an official road marking."
How can rainbow road art meet this LEGAL requirement.
The local woke cop, who called it "hate crime" needs to be publicly admonised.
These things are a nonsense. As Douglas Murray would say, there is no such thing as a 'Rainbow Community.' For example, lesbians have almost nothing in common with gays, and vice versa. And if they're such a 'community' he would also say "take me to your leader" - and he, as gay man, speaks with some authority.
It's woke virtue signalling bs, and not only doesn't it meet the legal requirenents of a crossing, but it should be done with their own money and on their own land. Now that WOULD identify them as a community.
I concur with Doug. Drivers are conditioned to acknowledge a black & white 'zebra' crossing. As another commentator mentioned, what if a car hits a pedestrian on a non-regulation 'rainbow crossing'?
Internationally, road signage follows colour and format conventions that are recognised by tourist drivers globally. Along comes the woke brigade and break away from those conventions.
Even though I am not religiously inclined, I do applaud the Destiny Church members who paint out the rainbow crossings. It is good to see some Kiwis who restore some balance. As for police spokespersons of various genders, get your sh-t together and catch the vandals who paint-out regulation black and white zebra crossings.
