David Farrar: Health Target 5 – elective treatments


The fifth health target is that 95% of patients wait less than four months for elective treatment.

Again in 2015 and 2016, over 99% got treatment within four months. It has now dropped to 61.8%. A shocking decline.

Those with private insurance bear much of the brunt from the public system. Their money has supported the specialists who the state also utilise. Recently many of the public have been frightened into private insurance.Those who anticipate need are first to join and this high risk lot raises premiums for all, incuding the loyal long term subscribers who have made no or minimal clalms.
