David Farrar: Why won’t Te Pati Maori comply with the law?

The Electoral Commission announced:

A referral has been made to Police on 4 October 2024 relating to Te Pāti Māori’s failure to file annual financial statements with the Electoral Commission. The financial statements and accompanying audit report were due on 30 June 2024 under sections 210G and 210H of the Electoral Act.

Their financial statements are not a few days late, but 115 days late.

Has anyone asked the co-leaders or president why they are refusing to file audited accounts for the year ending 31 December 2024? Every other parliamentary party has done so.

David Farrar runs Curia Market Research, a specialist opinion polling and research agency, and the popular Kiwiblog where this article was sourced. He previously worked in the Parliament for eight years, serving two National Party Prime Ministers and three Opposition Leaders.

Presumably they are imagining decolonisation as they have been exhorted by Moana Jackson and many ardent discples to do, and under which under which there is no obligation.

What has happened regarding the Public Service Commission and other agencies independent inquiry into the allegations that Te Pāti Māori misused data during the 2023 election campaign? All gone quiet or did I fall asleep and miss an outcome?

Clearly the refusal to file financial statements is just part of the agenda to decolonise Maori society and return it to the pre-colonial golden age when Maori didn't have a written language. And if you don't have a written language you can't keep financial records can you? To demand compliance is therefore just another example of institutional racism and oppression of the tangata whenua. Or it could be simple ignorance and incompetence. Which pretty much adds up to the same thing.

There could be no Treaty to honour with decolonisation

Maybe they haven't appointed someone to sharpen their crayons.

They're practicing for when He Puapua recommendations become law and everything is decolonised. Including financial accountability.

Te Pati maori don't recognise New Zealand and the society that live here! these radicals live in Aotearoa, which makes them exempt, from any laws .There will be no unity here, while these people can peddle their hatred of the crown.

It is the law which is failing to demand compliance from these uncivilised people.
