Professor Robert MacCulloch: When Will New Zealand's Main Stream Media Quit its Racist and Sexist attacks on the American people?

What's gone wrong with NZ's Main Stream Media? How did our journalists become so bad; so bigoted? After Trump's election victory, even US outlets like the New York Times, which have not traditionally sided with him, are re-evaluating.

Its journalists are now arguing that since such huge numbers of Americans supported him (the Republicans won the popular vote, Electoral College, Senate and will probably win Congress) his values and beliefs must be recognized as representing the values and beliefs of Americans, at least a significant, clear majority of them. The New York Times notes, "In her closing rally Kamala Harris scorned Trump as an outlier who did not represent America. “That is not who we are,” she declared, In fact, it turns out, that may be exactly who we are. At least most of us". Whether it is CNN or the New York Times, there's a recognition that President Elect Trump must now be recognized as representing ground-swell opinion in America & should not be subject to continued (character) assassinations by the Main Stream Media, since he represents America.

The New Zealand Main Stream Media, however, is having none of it. It relentlessly attacks Trump, even after his comprehensive win. Consequently, its attacks on him must now be taken as attacks on the people of the United States - since he is a reflection of them - of their hopes and aspirations, of their dreams, of who are they are, of their values and beliefs. As such our Main Stream Media's continued evisceration of Trump constitutes nothing less than racist and sexist attacks on the American people - on Black Americans, on Hispanics, on American women - for Mr. Trump could not have won without them turning out for him in numbers sufficiently large so as to swing the election against Kamala Harris. So who does Newsroom wield out to do some analysis - a chap from Otago University who says Trump "ran a campaign that was openly racist, sexist and xenophobic". Why doesn't Newsroom just come out with it and replace the word "Trump" with "Americans", and label Americans "racist, sexist and xenophobic". Meanwhile, one of the Herald's writers, reacting to Sir John Key's prediction that Trump would probably win, wrote "Let’s not forget we’re talking about - an unabashed racist, a deeply misogynist, erratic, vengeful, narcissistic bully. A convicted criminal". Why doesn't the Herald come out with it & stick those labels on Americans in general? Not be outdone, Stuff reported a few years ago, "Donald Trump 'most racist US president' since Woodrow Wilson".

Sure, these outlets can write what they like in the name of free speech, but what about also publishing articles with different views? Kiwis have had enough of our Main Stream Media labelling any of us who take a different view from their own journalists - who differ from their opinions - as being garbage, to quote Joe Biden. Maybe its New Zealand's Big Media Outlets that are the racists, since they seem to dislike entire races of people, and not only the personalities of their leaders, as this US election has revealed.

The winning side in this contest didn’t vote against Kamala Harris so much as they voted against the Democratic Party, the Party of Chaos, of BLM riots, of drag queens in the school library, of men in the women’s swim lane (and locker room), of forced vaccinations (your bodily autonomy, sister?), of locking up grandmothers who walked through the Capitol rotunda, of state-driven censorship, of malicious political prosecutions, of ruinous proxy war, of flooding the country with criminal alien mutts, of Mao Zedong style erasing of history, of FISA court surveillance, and, finally, of the same sort of self-loathing for the nation that a three hundred pound sophomore with a nose ring and sleeve tattoos feels for herself.

I really don't see how Trump is a racist. I also fail to believe he is either sexist or actually xenophobic. Anyone anywhere finds it hard to seamlessly fit into a new society and it's culture, it takes a lot of work.

On the contrary he seams to love and support people from all walks of life.

I also especially like how he has now selected his Chief of Staff, a Woman and consequently a first for this role, and totally on merit. she ran a very smooth campaign. I believe she gave Donald Trump a more moderate persona, less TV persona more Presidential. Susie Wiles. It must be a hard one to swallow for some people here.

You have it in one Prof, but remember it took years of remorseless propaganda in the schools and universities to produce all those malevolent MSM idiots. So it’s not totally their own fault.

One of Trump's most effective campaign slogans was to say "Harris is for they/them. Trump is of you". The NZ MSM is definitely for they/them, promoting division through co-government, privilege based on race, trans-sexual propaganda and Marxism. They are against democracy (unless their chosen politicians win). It is no wonder that they call someone popularly elected, who isn't Marxist, names and insults.

Are ppl unaware that Lincoln, who abolished slavery, was Republican?

Could have sworn that American-style government was described by Abraham Lincoln as being "of the people, by the people and for the people"". I believe that"s why it's called "representative" Government. If correct, it makes perfect sense to assume the people, or in this case, the people who voted for Trump, believe him to best represent their world view, however racist, sexist and xenophobic that may be. Of course it may all be political theatre on Trump's part. If so, that actually makes matters worse because if it means he is not the racist, sexist or xenophobic candidate his campaign paints him to be, then he was lying all along and all those racist, sexist and xenophobic voters are going to be mightily pissed off when they discover they"ve been gamed. In the meantime, Trump is living proof of the immortal comment made by HL Menken who wrote: "No one in this world, ...has ever lost money by underestimating the intelligence of the great masses of the plain people"'. What is rarely quoted is his next sentence ""Nor has anyone ever lost public office thereby". And Donald Trump has no intention of losing office again. So what will he come up with in four years to top his racist, sexist, xenophobic playbook of 2024? The historical precedents are not good for America.

Professor MacCulloch - you need to add to your well stated article, that on the Breaking Views, where an article has appeared that had an "liking for Trump/ or relates to him in some form", you only had to scroll down to the posted comment and read the "negativity", I am assuming posted by New Zealander Citizens!
When you read such "define statements", one has to wonder, -
- where did they get their information
- on that data, did they cross reference to any other source
- do they disbelieve other sources, that just may have a better opine & presentation of data to consider
- what do they know about Donald Trump?
The other matter that oft arises, is the statement of Trump "being a convicted felon".
This is incorrect and my source for this is - Megyn Kelly (former Fox news presenter, has her own Podcast and regularly posts videos to YouTube) - who recently sat with 4 males, where the conversation was - Trump, and the topic arose of "him being a convicted felon" and she very quickly corrected the person who made that statement as being factually incorrect - you may find the video under Megyn Kelly on YouTube.
Also to, what is missing from any NZ MSM coverage of American Politics, is who within the Republican Party (that is Political & Public [very wealthy people]) who supported Trump from 2016 thru to now.
To conclude, Prof MacCulloch, you have a detracting comment, posted under this article.
In 4 years. J. D Vance will move up the ladder and you watch the appointing of Tulsi Gabbard as the VP for the 2028 Presidential Primaries.
Oh the concluding matter, I am not sure "why we have had people with a collection of china teacups, banging away at potential tariff increases on our exports to America, I do not see this as a problem, we are NOT CHINA and America is a major importer of - meat > beef that is used in the Fast Food Market (McD's) - [has been for many years, dairy, wine (the last being a multi $$$ business), I believe that our Sauvignon Blanc is popular in America.

At the end of the day this was a domestic election. US citizens voting for themselves, on their terms, in their own country. It was not a global election with a global electorate. The rest of the world just has to get over it and work with it. If you don't like it, too bad. If you love it, good on you. It doesn't actually matter. What matters is how you ( ie the rest of the world) gets on with life. And remember, a little bit of respect goes a long way.

To a very large extent I couldn't care less because it just helps the MSM die faster. Granted that they think they're safe in attacking America and Americans but there must be thousands of Kiwis who have a lot more connections with the USA than fifty years ago, including rellies, so many of them might think this is crap. Also that many Kiwis might suspect that the MSM, with these stories, is also attacking them by proxy.

Boilerplate whinge on the dreaded MSM. Otago prof's analysis of T's win is quite nuanced, and politics is his field. ....

"The proof is in the pudding"
Anybody who has travelled to the US regularly can see the damage the Left has done. The entire "Left" coast has become a cess pool of drugs, crime, human excrement, homelessness, mental instability & misery with Portland, Oregon leading the charge ahead of San Francisco & Seattle. Chicago, Pittsburgh, New York & most other "liberal" cities are also in decline & where are people moving to ? Red States like Texas & Florida are benefitting from an influx of middle class professionals & the wealthy while those that work from home or are nearing retirement are moving in record numbers to...Mexico...you have to see the irony lol...

Trumps win is indicative of the world pendulum beginning to swing back the other way from Loony Left ideals. Citizens are growing sick of propaganda and it appears would like a bit of decisive leadership. NZ- MSM have been seeking attention by fuelling divisive “so called news” for a decade or two in a misguided attempt to keep themselves relevant while their need is diminishing. On top of that NZ Media are also just so unaware enough to not realise they are approximately two years behind real world opinion. Rightly so - this will eventually weed the majority of our uninformed NZ propaganda promoters out of jobs when NZ taxpayers realise what they have been paying for. I personally have felt offended for some years - that my tax dollars have gone towards some of this nonsensical and counter productive stuff. Stuff thats actually harming our nation. Perhaps the majority of them could go find productive jobs or something? If only our politicians had a bit more grunt on this particular subject - we might have better facts, more truthful info (accountability) and therefore better nationally beneficial decisions being made overall. Race and Climate are two perfect examples of MSM hurting NZ citizens with self serving propaganda for some years - without any integrity or accountability filters in place.
