What on earth has to be done to shame Luxon into waking up to all of this because no sane leader could possibly be complicit with it all - unless they have no regard whatsoever for the future of New Zealand?
Yes, it's going on alright. Co-governance in disguise. The question is: Do New Zealand people want to retain their democracy? Just as a new Taupo council will need to sort all this out, so will a new government when Luxon swans off overseas for pastures green, just like Ardern. I always wondered how some countries ended up under a dictatorship. Now I understand. An apathetic populace, a compromised media, constantly appeasing academics.(Who says we have to include Maorification in education? We actually don't) and very focused, determined, radical people. We have the building blocks alright. So sad...New Zealand was once such a bright light in an ever dimming world.
The Platform interview of Taupo Councillor Campbell the previous day very relevant and worth chasing. It is regularly implied that with 50/50 and co governance arrangements the max political ability of maori is veto. But veto is effectively their minimum. As the maori team is externally selected by a common minded group they have common intent. They need have no regard of the wider community and, not elected by, no motive to consider. It is only in the very rare case that not one of the "other"party is pro maori, and all are totally immune to threat of cancellation or effect, and all unafraid of utu, that the maori influence is reduced to mere veto.
As I have observed before the artfulness and effectiveness of the maori takeover of NZ is truly masterful. The mix of the most artful and conniving of maori and colonist genes is proving a disaster for others, and for all in the long run.
I must be vey naive but I would have thought that local government legislation would prohibited non elected people from having a vote on any council business.
Unfortunately is BECAUSE of the Local Govt Act that unelected representatives on Local Councils do have voting powers. That should be repealed as it is being abused by Councils
