A new Taxpayers’ Union-Curia Poll suggests the 2026 general election could result in a hung Parliament, with both centre-left and centre-right blocs projected to win 61 seats each.
Conducted from 3–5 August amid economic concerns, the poll shows Labour overtaking National as the largest party, rising 2 points to 33.6 percent, while National falls 2.1 points to 31.8 percent.
The Greens edge up to 9.8 percent, ACT slips to 8.6 percent, New Zealand First drops to 7.8 percent, and Te Pāti Māori dips to 3.2 percent.
Cost of living remains voters’ top priority, followed by the broader economy. Preferred Prime Minister ratings show Chris Hipkins and Christopher Luxon tied at 20.2 percent, with Winston Peters at 8.2 percent.

The more accurate Roy Morgan poll still has the coalition government ahead.
Strange we haven't seen the despicable nz media cite the Roy Morgan poll, which could explain why so many turkeys are pledging their support for XMAS.
It's certainly hard to believe that New Zealanders would vote for tribal rule by 2040. That's what returning a Labour, Greens and Maori Party would ensure.
There is no doubt TMP have become even more vocal and radical recently(if that's possible). A PM needs to have decisive views on more than the economy. I admired Helen Clark at various points but did not vote for her. I was not too dismayed when she was re-elected. This Labour Party is a far cry from that one. They will promise the world but it is all on "printed money".
Time for people to think about emigrating. We don't seem to have a united, cohesive society anymore.
The coalition should be streets ahead in the polls by now, I wonder if they have the intelligence to take a look at these polls and ask themselves why they are so bad.
If they can't or won't, then this country is heading down the gurggler. If/ when it becomes apparent that Labour will be heading the next govt., there will be a mass exodus of talented, educated and entrepreneurial people and their money, a re-run of what has happening in the U.K. since labour became the govt. there. Luxon must understand the expectations of those who elected him into the P.M. As with all people who are elected into power, they ignore those who elected them at their cost.
