That was, after all, why we needed a new flag ~ to express our diversity. Never mind that a flag expressing diversity is a contradiction in terms. A flag has to express one idea, and say what we all hold in common. A flag of ‘diversity’ would have to be a flag of many completely different unrelated little squares on the same fabric.
Diversity, after all, is difference. That is what the word means. The more diversity there is, the more difference. Therefore the less we have in common. That is obvious, surely.
Well, it may be obvious to us, but only gradually are slow glimmerings of the obvious beginning to dawn on the dimwitted guardians and projectors of our state ideology. Recently, they have started to express their concerns that ‘social cohesion’ is being frayed.
Who would have thought? After many years of promoting difference and division they are now surprised that we are facing...difference and division!
The fraying of social cohesion is the direct and inevitable consequence of social difference. Of diversity. Thanks to the relentless ongoing promotion of diversity we are now living among people with whom we have less and less in common. This is what diversity is. Diversity IS the loss of social cohesion.
A child of five could tell you this. The fact that this is only now slowly dawning on our ‘intellectual’ class simply reveals once more what complete morons they are. If they did know it all along, of course, they should be classified not as fools but as liars. Fools or rogues ~ I see no other choice.
I can guess their proposed solution, however ~ lectures and laws. Indoctrination, from early childhood onwards, by nice caring bossy persons, about how important it is to be nice to everyone; especially those people of different ethnicities, cultures, faiths, sexualities, genders ~ and not forgetting, of course, our Treaty obligations! And if lectures are not enough, laws will follow. They are following already. In the United Kingdom Keir Starmer is releasing murderers and rapists early from prisons to make room for people who write unkind tweets about predatory strangers. This will be our future too.
Variety is the spice of life; but a spice is only an exciting flavour; it cannot be the staple, the bread and potatoes of existence. One cannot live on nutmeg alone.
I do not see that there is anything racist or objectionable about just wanting to feel at home in ones own country; to feel, in fact, that it is our country. That we live among people who are indeed our ‘fellows’ ~ people more or less like ourselves. That we are, in fact, embedded in an organic and genuine community. Community is not just a sign put up by a council official at the public library, it has to be a fact ~ something achieved by long cohabitation and mutual experience. It is perfectly natural and reasonable to want to be comfortable in ones own life, and to object to endless lectures from sanctimonious finger-waggers about our duty to strangers.
(And, of course, in a ‘Post-Modern’ age when we all have our own truths, and one is as good as the other, who are these people to tell us what we should and should not think and do?)
As you may be aware, the British Home Office disagrees. It has identified ‘cultural nationalism’ as a species of ‘extreme right wing terrorist ideology’. And ‘cultural nationalism ‘ is the belief that Western culture ~ which it puts in quotation marks, as though it does not actually exist ~ ‘is under threat from mass migration and a lack of integration by certain ethnic and cultural groups’.
The British government, in other words, has declared war on its own people. Oppose that mass migration of strangers into your own country, and you are not just insular or old-fashioned, you are a xenophobic terrorist. The police and the courts will deal with you. The civil war which looms ahead for Britain and other European countries ~ Ireland? France? Sweden? Germany? ~ that war has already started. The prophecy of the Roman poet is repeating itself ~ the blood of citizens is already staining the Thames and the Seine.
All over the Western world our ruling class is determined to destroy what is left of its own civilisation. The urge to self-destruction is generally considered a sign of serious mental illness.

Diversity = woke spin for destabilization.
Some decades ago, I moved to oz.
It was like working for the league of nations, in my first job. I thought it was amazing-all these cultures I had never seen in NZ.
It didn't take long to become aware of the simmering hatreds that had come from the 'old countries'
-serbs vs croats
-greeks vs turks
-lebs vs anyone white
etc etc
The cronulla riots didn't surprise us.
Multiculturalism........yeh nah, festering old 'scores' surface.
David, your essay cuts straight to the absurdity of the modern moral theatre.
Consider Helena Morrissey, former London City fund manager and chair of the uk Diversity Project, reacting to a Freeths report that more than half of major UK businesses were rolling back or watering down DEI policies in response to Trump-style “anti-woke” pressure.
Morrissey wailed at this apparent betrayal of principle: “After every scandal that’s cost so much money and shareholders have suffered as well, why would people think, ‘Oh, now we can take the foot off the gas when it comes to being ethical’… Ethics is all about doing the right thing. I don’t really see how it’s ethics or profits or how ethics are woke – that doesn’t really make any sense to me.”
Pause. Read that again. What she means by “ethics” is not shared duty, merit, or the practical glue of civilisation — it is progressive philosophy masquerading as moral law. Ethics, in Morrissey-speak, is cheering the endless managerial parade of diversity policies, paying homage to equality metrics, and never, ever letting profit or reality get in the way of signalling virtue.
A company scraps DEI under political pressure? Outrage. Ethics has been violated. But ask whether a firm’s CEO has delivered value, protected customers, or kept a business afloat — suddenly profit enters the frame, and morality “isn’t woke.”
Most people will recognise the pattern instantly: this is what happens when ethics becomes ideology. The Ministry of Ethics (Diversity and Sustainability, one could add) decrees virtue from on high; dissent is treated as extremism; shared culture, cohesion, and common sense are pathologised.
Diversity becomes compulsory religion; merit, competence, and community are trivialised.
Morrissey’s lament is thus unintentionally revealing: she mourns not a loss of principle, but the loss of ideological conformity. Ethics, once the practical code of doing right by people and society, has been hollowed out and replaced with virtue-branding. And yet, when society struggles under the weight of its own diversity obsession, the clerisy will still wag fingers, lecture us on “doing the right thing,” and call anyone preferring a coherent community morally suspect.
Your point, David, could not be clearer: cohesion is not hate, preference for one’s own community is not extremism, and doing the right thing often means protecting what is ours. Ethics was never meant to be a ceremonial parade of progressive philosophy; it was meant to sustain trust, culture, and civilisation. Morrissey proves the problem: for the modern moralist, ethics resides in a woke dimension and not the natural world.

Douglas Murray in his book "The Strange Death of Europe", comments that, while the disadvantages of the present mass migration into Europe may need a great deal of time to admit to, "Ïn the meantime the agreement seems to have been reached with the general public that it is not such a bad deal: if there is a bit more beheading and sexual assault than there used to be in Europe, then at least we also benefit from a much wider range of cuisines". British wit at its most sardonic, and readily convertible to our circumstances.
Mono cultural, European countries are the happiest in the world.
There is a Muphy's Law for this: It is impossible to make anything foolproof because fools are so ingenious.
How refreshing to hsve David putting pen to paper again.
Too much hyperbole for mine, you gotta at least pass over for a second edit. Studies have shown that people rarely change their mind, even when presented with facts. Hyperbole undoes all that good work or else you’re just preaching to the converted. Take it from a 20th generation Northlander bro.
