Te Pati Maori has expelled Tākuta Ferris and Mariameno Kapa-Kingi. I can’;’t recall if any party has ever before expelled two MPs at once, let alone a third of their caucus.
What is also unusual is there appears to have been no due process where they get to argue in their defence.

They will now sit as Independent MPs in Parliament. It is not yet known if TPM will try and expel them from Parliament. That would need the support of all four remaining TPM MPs (it needs two thirds majority of their original caucus). If they proceed down that route, then there would be by-elections in Te Tai Tokerau and Te Tai Tonga.
Once again I remind people that not a single poll since the last election shows Labour could form Government without the support of Te Pati Maori.

Surely the TMP bigwigs' (bighats'?) approach to this whole sorry (yet extremely entertaining) saga is the very definition of 'tikanga' - i.e. 'whatever we want it to be as long as it achieves the outcomes we desire at the time.'
Given the entire movement has hidden behind this ridiculously nebulous term for so long, it is only fitting that some of them are now the victims of it. Hoisted by their own petard, the Left is eating itself again (which is especially ironic given Maori culinary history.)
As you point out, David, Labour would have to partner up with this bunch of rag-tag fighters to form a government if they get in next year.
Woe is me - do we really need these clowns running the country?
Indulge in a thought experiment and imagine a National/ Labour coalition, then ask if that would be any better than Labour/ Greens / and Partly Maori? On National's track record within recent history, I'm figuring that it would actually be worse. Far better to have a fragile, fractured government comprising unserious people of barely average intelligence formed, than to apply any level of competence to the clearly underlying aims of protecting corporate welfare, racial segregation, climate change 'initiatives', digital ID, CBDC etc etc.
Good thought Kaye. Do we prefer a chaotic, entirely useless collection of mid or half wits running the show, or a somewhat competent collection of mediocre malevolents determined to destroy the country as rapidly as possible. What a choice!
God save us from the last two commentators. The present administration is hampered by a woke PM, but there are some very effective MPs making sane progress after the mess they were left.
Presumably if expelled no replaceements within term. Based on his speech about non maori support Ferris is unlkely to vote with the Coalition so TPM unlikely to chase them away. Whatever, the Tamahere ethic will likely prevail; maximise the draw of public funds irrespective of effort or postive contribution.
The negligible contribution by the TPM to the normal workings of Parliament is surely yet another justification for scrapping the seats. Jim Bolger seemed to be asleep on his feet when the current system was introduced. For a person of his time brought up in maori territory he was quaintly trusting of maori and the soft soap they apply to recognised possibly useful suckers..
