Yes, it is.
Nats are trying to keep the element of its support who are Nat-Lab crossovers and sympathetic to the radical Maori cause.I know a few. They are vaguely centre-right on economic issues but guilt-plagued on social issues such as Maori unelected seats being fine, Maori wards fine etc. They would be LibDem in UK. Nat hopes to keep them on board and let those annoyed with Nats vote Act or NZ First and in doing so shore up the coalition.
Do we forget that this is a coalition, made of parties with some common goals but also with different platforms and purpose? Come election time the first job of each party is to reassure their electorate - whatever it takes. If National doesn’t manage to get most votes in the next election then we will end up with a left government - it is that simple. We have to decide what we dislike more - Nats or the left block. Remember 2017?
Can I suggest the entire National caucus buy, and READ Dale Carnegie's book :
"How to win friends and influence people ".
I see the arrogant National again when previously Bill English technically abused Winston as the underling and NZF went with Ardern .
Will National never learn , they abuse ACT and the NZ public by refusing a debate on the Treaty Principles Bill, scorn NZF at every available opportunity, yet Winston has been exemplary as Foreign Minister , Hon David Seymour very competent in his turn as the deputy PM.
ACT and NZF are excellent coalition partners and have contributed enormously , arguably more than National , because the finance Minister and PM have not attended to their respective position with merit . Both have failed last election promises .
Strategic voting is understood now in 2026 and National may receive a result to forget.
If Willis and Bishop lose their Party Vote seats then National will only have themselves to blame .
I would like to know if Simeon Brown made the comment on his own or if this was Daddy Luxon's idea.
