"Instead, councils will have the option of entering into new narrowly scoped iwi participation agreements to record how iwi authorities will participate in statutory planning processes and processes required to give effect to Treaty settlement redress. What I don't get is the audacity of Councils to get these agreements in place despite clear Govt. intent to stop this nonsense. It was a deliberate ploy to undermine Govt's, i.e. the will of the people, policy. Don't they call this anarchy? The bureaucrats and Councillors who were pursuing this agenda at great ratepayer cost should be sacked otherwise they will simply find another line of attack.
Yeah right Mr Bishop. What is this new “option” actually going to mean? I should feel like this is very good news, but it’s got to the point where I’ll only believe it if we see you deliver something other than a slippery half measure designed to fool the maximum number of voters. Go on - surprise me! Make this change real and watertight.
I hear Michael Laws this morning saying some inside national are fuming, Finlayson calling other MPs traitors. Bishop won. Luxon voted against this policy.
Hummm, how long will it take Luxon to figure out he is in the wrong party.
I personally think it is Finlayson who is the traitor. He is responsible for a large part of the divisive society we have today and many of the problems we face. Finlayson is a narcissistic traitor to this country.

To take the Jerry Maguire "Show me the money" quote and reuse it, let us see just what transpires because, based on past performance, National's Ministers have repeatedly opted for half measure 'solutions' that give an illusion of doing what is necessary and little else of substance. This to the extent that I refer to our Local Govt Minister as "Half-Watt" and have no faith whatsoever in National to prove me wrong by providing evidence that an investment or deal is worthwhile. Show us the money Mr Bishop!
The real problem all along has been legislative amendments made by previous National governments and actions by mainly TLA's.

It is absolutely wonderful to hear the the idiot Finlayson is rather upset at being forced to eat a dead rat. Well all I can say to that is tough sh1t mate, as that is what you have been forcing the rest of us to do ad infinitum since your tenure in Parliament.
Let's begin with what an acronym is, Basil. An acronym must be voiced like a word. Hence 'NATO' is an acronym but 'OECD' is not (you spell it out, you don't say 'ookd' or similar). So neither RMA nor TLA are acronyms. Getting to your real point which is the recognisability of abbreviations and initialisms, that's a tricky one as they will invariably be well known to some groups of people who use them a lot such as in their work while being unknown to others. Writers should use their common sense (and common courtesy) and spell out any abbreviation, acronym or initialism the first time they use it.

If government have foolishly committed to wrong, bad, immoral Treaty settlements, that's their problem.
We have made Parliament sovereign, so sort it out and stop messing about.
Chris, if you wish to stem the flow of support from National to NZFirst, i suggest you act really fast and publish those “narrow terms” before the election so that the public can have confidence you mean what you say. After the last 3 years you cannot blame the public for being sceptical
Finlayson does have any kids, so he doesn't have a worry about destroying their future, but he doesn't give a rats about yours and your grandchildren - just so long as history remembers him as giving equal partnership to Maori.
Oh, there have been do many evil people given the power in NZ to destroy everything that has been so hard won by previous generations.

This country will never move on untill all references to Maori as a collective political voice is completely extinguished.
It's called equality under one law. There are NO compromises.
It staggers me how much legislation has been passed which is seriously flawed in detail. Probably the ease with which it can later be thrown out discourages quality.. Little wonder maori hang onto the Treaty; it offers scope to counter reversals .
.Presumably back benchers are too busy, dim or daunted to seriously ponder and question. Govt legal advisers bet on a maori dominated future so do not jeopardise their future employments. MPs who have been very indulgent to maori are not fawnd over when no longer very useful. Finlayson is unfathomable for the reasons given above.,. Surely he realises that smarming from maori will only last whilst he can be exploited.. Are the fees so attractive at his age and in his position?
