Luxon emerged from this morning’s caucus meeting flanked by some of his most senior ministers, following renewed speculation about his future as National leader.
“There was a confidence vote in my leadership this morning at our caucus meeting. I had the full support of our caucus, and our caucus is united and it is determined to win this election,” Luxon said.
His appearance before reporters was remarkably brief, lasting fewer than 60 seconds.
Luxon did not take questions before leaving.
The vote follows days of intensifying speculation over his leadership and comes just months after Luxon survived an earlier caucus confidence vote in April. National MPs had been called to an urgent 9.30am meeting in Wellington on Wednesday to address the issue.

Egg all over the faces of the scheming and obviously not very well connected & defintely unreliable National MPs who fed the NZ Hersld (again) with their BS leadership narrative.
Their days must be well and truly numbered - just as the credibility of the MSM (not that there’s much left).

Another one for the "seemed like a good idea at the time" category.
I watched the Luxon one minute speech after the caucus meeting (12 August). Or was it simply a memo from the CEO’s desk. Luxon enjoys the whole CEO thing – think helicopters, aircraft on call and all the other trappings. Fly in Fly out. Urgent board meeting. Crisis averted. Job done. Troops happy. Get out of Wellington as quickly as possible - he loves that part, he has said so.
Standouts for me were. The support ministers behind him. Looking like a bunch of out of work undertakers. Not one of them smiled. Plus I have never seen Luxon smile about anything. I considered his whole demeanour to be utterly visionless, passionless and graceless. He might have acknowledged the supporting ministers with him. Are they really supporters? He might have thanked his caucus for their support. He might even have reached out to any of the voting public who have expressed support. No. This guy is absolute boredom. The whole performance should have been accompanied by Russian funeral music.
Other thoughts. Did he call the in person caucus meeting of his own volition? Or was the in person format forced on him by others? My feeling is it was a bad move politically. If he had gone on to tough everything out publicly, without a meeting, he would have avoided a deal of ill feeling. Maybe strengthened his leadership credentials. To my way of thinking he lacks a lot of self-confidence, a lot. That is why he avoids as much media contact as possible, and avoids spending time in Wellington.
However, still not the PM I voted for , I wanted one that would fulfill his election promises, and subsequent mandate.
I've heard virtually nothing from his mouth with regard to the Maori indoctrination in NZ since he declared that he didn't like anything about the Treaty Principles Bill.
