It is worse in Auckland. All those grand old suburbs within 800 metres of a rail station can have 6 stories as of right. 20 metres? With far more with a consent. Dwellers in lovely old family homes find themselves in a canyon surrounded by rentals, some/many of which are likely to be Kianga Ora "clients".Tthere is going to be a huge departure of middle NZers from Godzone.
