Israel, from its 1948 re-birth in Palestine, or what was once ancient Canaan, where Israel and Judah’s Kingdoms were established, has faced ongoing challenges to its right to exist just as it did in ancient times.
There is a biblical element to this which is briefly covered later.
That challenge to Israel is continuing now on two fronts. The war in Gaza and in world public opinion as represented by South Africa’s Genocide charge being heard at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the huge pro-Palestinian protests, in response to the large death toll in Gaza, being held in most Western and many Middle Eastern cities.
Comparatively, there has been little sympathy for the loss of 1200 Israeli people killed, raped, mutilated, and terrorised with a further 240 kidnapped (105 returned) by Hamas from the Southern Israeli kibbutz by Hamas.
As of 15 January 2024, Hamas’ Gaza Health Authority said at least 24,100 Gazans (including Hamas fighters) had died and 60,000 had been injured.
Can Israel meet PM Netanyahu’s objective to eliminate Hamas as a fighting group and form a government in Gaza? Various estimates say Hamas has up to 30,000 militia and that between 2000+ and 9000+ of them are included in the 24,100 Gazan deaths.
If that’s so there is a long way to go.
Can Israel eradicate the hate that is entrenched in Hamas and others to want to drive the Jews out of Israel? Not a chance. That danger will carry on for all eternity.
The biggest immediate danger Israel faces is world public opinion stigmatising Israel to ultimately cause many younger Jews not to fight for their nation’s survival.
Yes, I know Israel’s steely resolve. Masada. Never again. It is that resolve that’s being attacked by Iran and many others throughout the world.
Iran and its South African allies’ joint strategy is to drive a wedge between the world and Israel so that its military support becomes increasingly conditional and secondly to traumatise and stigmatise Jews into feeling that IDF service is so controversial that internal consensus on security policies is weakened and the Jews find it very difficult to serve in the IDF.
Just as North Vietnam beat the Americans in the living rooms of American homes, Iran seeks to do the same within Israeli homes.
The South African Foreign minister went to Tehran right after the 7 October 2023 attack on Israel to discuss strategy.
It’s no surprise that South Africa has taken a case against Israel to the ICJ.
Hamas cannot beat Israel militarily. Neither can Iran, yet.
According to biblical prophecy, none of which has been wrong thus far, the world will come against Israel. In fact, the UN is already against Israel with most of its censuring resolutions against countries being made against Israel. Read the great Hebrew prophet, Zechariah 12:1-3 14:2-3.
Turkey, Jordan, Brazil, Colombia, Bolivia, Pakistan and Malaysia are among the states that have publicly supported South Africa’s case before the ICJ along with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. This Saudi-based organization consists of 57 member states, 48 of which are Muslim-majority countries. And Russia, China, and North Korea are likely to come in line too.
Liberal Democracies should be invested in Israel’s survival as they stand against the onslaught of militant fundamentalist Muslim Jihadism spread throughout the Western world.
Last Monday’s stigmatisation of Israel by South Africa in the ICJ was effective but unlikely to be a winning performance.
In 1948, the United Nations Genocide Convention defined genocide as any of five “acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group”. These five acts were: killing members of the group, causing them serious bodily or mental harm, imposing living conditions intended to destroy the group, preventing births, and forcibly transferring children out of the group. Victims are targeted because of their real or perceived membership of a group, not randomly.”
It was the Holocaust that took the lives of over 6 million Jews that brought about this UN Convention. Oh, the Irony.
Along with the views of a British Law Lord and a KC that I’ve read recently on this, I do not see Israel’s conduct of its war in Gaza fitting the definition of genocide. But then again our former Labour PM and administrator of the United Nations Development Programme Helen Clark does.
But the purpose of South Africa’s case isn’t winning. The primary objective is to bring Israel into disrepute over the months and years this case will go on.
Its purpose, along with that of Iran, and others previously mentioned, is to weaken the resolve for survival of the Israeli people in their living rooms as they watch TV news, read social and mainstream media constantly telling them they are evil people committing genocide and that they have no right to live in Israel.
That’s the agenda.
Although the USA, UK, France, Germany and most EU and English-speaking countries like Australia, New Zealand, and Canada are with Israel, they are all subject to public opinion at home, and, in New Zealand’s case, to Labour-Green and Te Pati Maori Party (holding 45 percent of parliamentary seats) supporting South Africa’s case at the ICJ .
Israel’s support in the world is fragile.

What utter bullshit. Of course anyone can 'prove' a 'prophecy' by making some nebulous babble from millennia ago appear to fit some scenario in the world today. It's been done time and time again with the villains of the cast being various ancient empires followed by more modern state entities and now the UN. 'None of which has been wrong thus far'? Of course not, with that kind of fabrication and massaging going on. The same dishonest techniques can be applied to horoscopes which can then be said to have 'not been wrong thus far'.
This writer has a credibility rating of zero.
Israel has killed or seriously wounded close to 90,000 Palestinians in Gaza, almost one in every 20 inhabitants. It has destroyed or damaged over 60 percent of the housing. The “safe areas,” to which some 2 million Gazans were instructed to flee in southern Gaza, have been bombed, with thousands of casualties. Palestinians in Gaza now make up 80 percent of all the people facing famine or catastrophic hunger worldwide, according to the U.N. Every person in Gaza is hungry. A quarter of the population are starving and struggling to find food and drinkable water. Famine is imminent. The 335,000 children under the age of five are at high risk of malnutrition. Some 50,000 pregnant women lack healthcare and adequate nutrition.
Israel has no intention of creating a viable Palestinian state. Its goal is the ethnic cleansing of the 2.3 million Palestinians from Gaza and the annexation of Gaza by Israel. And when Israel is done with Gaza, it will turn on the West Bank, where Israeli raids now occur on an almost nightly basis and where thousands have been arrested and detained without charge since Oct. 7.
Israel's support in the world may seem fragile Alasdair, but to look carefully at all the opposers is to see how false and fallible they are - countries with no cause to be proud of their own human rights. As for the mindless crowds turning out to wave their flags for Palestine - poor souls have little capacity to reason, and just want to bolster their own fragile egos by being where they think 'the action' is - really sad when it is our youth (asked why they are protesting, they have no idea!)
Of course, the situation is desperately sad - for all "innocent lives" that's most of the people on the front line, while the truly evil Hamas bosses sit smugly out of danger, kept by donations from governments in 'the West'!.
Islam is a very scary religion- has been since Muhammad, surprised that his countrymen did not readily accept his revelations from the angel Gabriel, gathered his forces and swept up the world as it was, beheading as he went - obediently. (I guess the early Hebrews were pretty warlike, and as for Christians - they can have no excuse for all for centuries of warfare in the name of a truly pacific 'messenger of God')
Take heart Alasdair, that while so many of us human beings are seeming to fearfully side with the majority bullies, we know there are still brave souls able to seek and speak the truth. Good for you. (and bullshit to BV)
Thank you anonymous for giving us the great news an world hunger, if Gaza accounts for 80%% of those facing famine we've cracked it. World Against Hunger puts the number at 783,000,000, thanks for the update.
Plus Isreal seems to be doing a pretty poor job of ethnic cleansing, even if we accept Hamas' inflated claims of 24,000 killed.
Perhaps if Hamas stopped using their own population as human sheilds the toll would be lower.
PlWhy is it that none of the Muslin countries, worldwide, will accept Palestilien refugees, why has Egypt built a wall on its border with Gaza? The simple answer is none of them want these crazed murderers infecting their population.
There have been multiple proposals for a 2 state solution, Hamas has refused them all, they deserve what they're getting and the only solution is total defeat by Israel and bringing their leaders to justice.
The genocide charges by South Africa with support from countries such as Russia are parodies of UN justice.
