David Farrar: No we shouldn’t ban Candace Owens

The Herald reports:

Young Labour has published an open letter urging the Government to follow Australia’s lead and stop Candace Owens entering the country.

The conservative US commentator and Trump supporter has caused controversy with her views questioning the Holocaust, and criticising feminism, the Black Lives Matter movement, and trans people.

She is booked to deliver a speech in Auckland next month — and had been expected to continue to Australia until she was refused entry. Tickets were selling for between $95 for general admission and $1500 for a VIP package with a pre-show dinner, champagne reception and meet-and-greet.

Australian Immigration Minister Tony Burke said the country’s national interest would be best served with Owens somewhere else, as she could “incite discord in almost every direction”.

An appalling decision from Australia, and one we should avoid.

I do believe Owens is clearly anti-semitic and says many terrible things. I find her a pretty contemptible person.

But if people want to go pay money to hear her in person (or challenge her) they have the right to do so.

Also banning her will just make her more popular and in demand.

Young Labour President Ethan Reille disagreed, and called on the coalition Government to deny Owens entry to New Zealand.

“Her views are not merely just controversial, but they are dangerous. So we do have an obligation to be protecting our communities from that kind of rhetoric that empowers divisive movements. So it is our view that allowing her a platform would fail to uphold our core values.”

Some pro-Palestinian activists are seem as divisive by many. What Young Labour really means is that views they disagree with should not be allowed in.

David Farrar runs Curia Market Research, a specialist opinion polling and research agency, and the popular Kiwiblog where this article was sourced. He previously worked in the Parliament for eight years, serving two National Party Prime Ministers and three Opposition Leaders.

Are most Jews actually NOT Semites? Palestinians are though. Who knew?
How massively disadvantaged are all these people? The ones in the Middle East, but also globally? let's take a look at all these claims, because I don't like my own way of life being encroached upon by any of these people. ,"I ain't done nothing" So please leave us over here alone.

Quoting that Young Labour Leader:-
"So we do have an obligation to be protecting our communities from that kind of rhetoric that empowers divisive movements."

If this is really the view of the Labour Party, they should demand the elimination of the Maori Party, Maori seats and the Waitangi Tribunal on the grounds that they all "empower" divisive movements.

Owen's has been disadvantaged, fired and lost former status for only one thing, which is her acknowledgement and criticism of Jewish power, particularly asking whether it is a good thing for anyone other than Jews.

There are allegations of "questioning the holocaust" but I've never seen any evidence for this, and even if she has done so - so what?

That is the crux. We know this because in 2024 nobody gets cancelled for having dissenting views on the other topics Farrah mentions.

Like Claudine Gay at Harvard, who was not fired because of plagiarism (which was known about for years), she was fired because of pressure from Jewish billionaire alumni for not being sufficiently pro-Israel. Even though this is obvious (because the president of U Penn also lost her job for the same reason), the matter has to be obfuscated so that the actual motivation is concealed (albeit poorly concealed).

So too with Owens, whose crime was noticing and speaking about organised political Jewry.

We should appreciate that Labour followers are very sensitive people, precious really, and they become very fragile when any of their ideological positions are questioned. When anyone calls them out they should put their fingers in their ears for as long as required.
