The report in Politico said:
President Donald Trump on Monday railed against air traffic controllers who took time off from their high-stress jobs during the federal shutdown and threatened to replace them with “true Patriots.”
“All Air Traffic Controllers must get back to work, NOW!!! Anyone who doesn’t will be substantially ‘docked,’” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “For those Air Traffic Controllers who were GREAT PATRIOTS, and didn’t take ANY TIME OFF for the ‘Democrat Shutdown Hoax,’ I will be recommending a BONUS of $10,000 per person for distinguished service to our Country.”
Trump demanded the return to work after hundreds of thousands of travellers last Sunday had their flights delayed or cancelled in the worst day for disruptions since the start of the longest government shutdown in U.S. history.
The shutdown came to an end on Wednesday night [US time], but flight disruptions are expected to continue for days as the air traffic system returns to normal operations.
The shutdown led to staffing shortages at airports as air traffic controllers went unpaid for weeks. Citing safety concerns, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced last week a 10% cut in flights at 40 major airports.
Trump’tone was at odds with the concerns which Duffy had expressed about the shutdown’s burden on the air traffic controllers, who – as essential employees – were required to work without pay.
Lest we be exposed to an accusation of cherry-picking quotes to create a misleading or distorted impression of what Trump said, the complete Truth Social post says:

For those that did nothing but complain, and took time off, even though everyone knew they would be paid, IN FULL, shortly into the future, I am NOT HAPPY WITH YOU. You didn’t step up to help the U.S.A. against the FAKE DEMOCRAT ATTACK that was only meant to hurt our Country. You will have a negative mark, at least in my mind, against your record.
If you want to leave service in the near future, please do not hesitate to do so, with NO payment or severance of any kind! You will be quickly replaced by true Patriots, who will do a better job on the Brand New State of the Art Equipment, the best in the World, that we are in the process of ordering.
The last “Administration” wasted Billions of Dollars trying to fix antiquated “junk.” They had no idea what they were doing!

It’s probably just as well we won’t have to find out, now that the US government is back doing what governments do..
But – as a prospective passenger being flown into US air space – neither option seemed appealing. .

I had read the same "rocket" about traffic controllers on Liberty Nation News and mused over direct language and modern gobble de gook that NZ media and PM Luxon use . There was absolutely NO doubt in the 47th USA President Trump message and the clarity is pure gold .
I then received an "Alliance Byte " memo from the meatworks operator who confirmed that the 15% USA tariff on NZ beef had been dropped albeit that the tariff since inception had cost NZ exporters millions of dollars .
Why not give this great Beef tariff drop news to NZ Trump style, rather than a pithy memo to a few who are on the Alliance electronic link because the export returns have a real meaning to all thinking NZers.
Is Mr Walker seriously suggesting that Donald Trump lifted his illegal tariffs on beef as a favour to New Zealand "meatworks operators"? Trump wouldn't know where to find New Zealand on a map, much less that we have a thriving beef export trade. He is simply scrambling to make hamburgers more affordable for his MAGA base as a reaction to his drop in popularity, the resounding defeat suffered by Republicans in the recent elections, and the need to divert attention from the Epstein scandal. If New Zealand gets a benefit from Trump"s domestic political maneuverings that's purely coincidental and will only last until the US farm lobby notices what he's done and has a quiet word in his ear. And incidentally, by choosing to reduce the tariffs as a way of reducing prices, he is admitting that those tariffs are, in fact, being paid by American consumers. Because if, as he has asserted from the outset, they are paid by someone else, why remove them at all?
