Roy Morgan’s New Zealand Poll for April 2026 shows the National-led Government (National, ACT & NZ First) on 47.5%, unchanged, and effectively tied with the Labour-Greens-Te Pāti Māori Parliamentary Opposition on 48%, unchanged, the latest Roy Morgan New Zealand Poll finds.
Support for National dropped 1% to 25.5% - its lowest level of support since National was elected to Government in late 2023.
Support for NZ First was up 0.5% to 11.5% - its highest level of support since being elected to Government.

Support for ACT was up 0.5% to 10.5%.
Support for Labour was unchanged on 34%.

A further 4.5% (unchanged) of electors supported a minor party outside Parliament. This includes 4% (unchanged) who support Opportunity and a further 0.5% (unchanged) who support other minor parties including the NewZeal, NZ Outdoors & Freedom Party (NZOFP), Vision NZ, Conservative Party NZ, Women’s Right’s Party and the Aotearoa Legalise Cannabis Party.

There is nothing about National that says "We are for the people, all the people". It's a bit like the British Labour Party under Starmer. They both seem totally oblivious that their days are numbered and a trouncing is a fait accompli. National could retain power but only because of NZF and ACT.
Is this the new breed of politician? One that is totally lacking insight? Luxon has had two and a half years...it might be too late now.
We know that left wing voters will vote left wing, regardless of policies and commonsense. That's unfortunate.
I see that 4% support the Opportunity Party which are just another version of the Greens. They only need another 1% and they will be in Parliament supporting the looney left alliance. Alternatively, if 1 or 2% of voters switch from them to the Greens, then again the loonies will be deciding the future of this country.
