Pee Kay: The Ice That Wouldn’t Melt!

Predictions of an Ice-Free Arctic Have Defied Expectations

In his 2006 documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, the oscar-winning documentary about former vice president Al Gore’s campaign to educate people about climate change, Gore predicted that “Global Warming” would cause severe and accelerated climate disruptions, including rising global temperatures, melting glaciers, stronger hurricanes, and an ice-free Arctic summer within decades.

20 years on Gore, unsurprisingly, claims “Global Warming” scientists have been right about climate change all along.

“The scientists were dead right on all the important elements of it, and it really is insane that we are continuing to use the sky as an open sewer and we’re trapping so much heat every day it’s equal to the amount that would be released by 800,000 Hiroshima-class atomic bombs exploding every day on the earth,“ Gore said.

To me, Gores documentary serves as a prime example of high profile climate doomsday predictions that have failed to materialise. Gores film captivated global audiences with terrifying, definitive timelines, yet decades later, the catastrophic outcomes used to frighten the public simply have not happened.

I’m saying we were bombarded with failed arctic (and other) predictions that Al Gore and other “scientific experts” wish we would forget!

By presenting extreme, worst-case scenarios as guaranteed near-term certainties, I say those predictions crossed the line from objective science into deliberate scaremongering. When these explicit deadlines pass with no disaster in sight, does it not prove that the narrative was built on exaggeration rather than reality?

If you do enough research and analysis on this topic and by tracking these claims, I think the track record is clear: those terrifying doomsday scenarios pushed by Gore and other early alarmists have been thoroughly and debunked, simply by nature and the passage of time.

Chief among these unfulfilled predictions was the sensationalised claim that the Arctic could be completely ice-free within a matter of years, with some “experts” claiming a 2014 deadline!

Today, the Arctic ice cap remains intact. Similarly, alarming warnings of an imminent, catastrophic, up to 7 metre, sea-level rise that would submerge coastal cities have proven entirely wrong, as global coastlines remain either unchanged or minutely changed.

That’s why in the UK ten years ago, a High Court judge said, when he ruled that Gore’s film could only be shown in British schools with guidance notes to prevent political indoctrination: “The Armageddon scenario he predicts, insofar as it suggests that sea level rises of seven metres might occur in the immediate future, is not in line with the scientific consensus” and would only happen “after, and over, millennia.”

In 2017 Gore set about doubling down on An Inconvenient truth by producing a follow-up, An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power. Instead of offering any humility or accountability and rather than admitting his original timelines completely failed, Gore used the sequel to craft a misleading narrative of self-vindication.

The most outrageous example of this is how the film handles his infamous Manhattan flooding prediction. In the 2006 original, Gore claimed that a catastrophic, 20-foot sea-level rise caused by a melted Greenland ice sheet would submerge the 9/11 Memorial site. Because this obviously never happened, the sequel tried a brazen sleight of hand. It showed footage of temporary street flooding caused by Superstorm Sandy’s storm surge in 2012, with Gore essentially declaring, “See? I was right.”

Critics were quick to destroy this deception. Easily showing there is a massive scientific gap between a temporary, weather-driven storm surge and a permanent 20-foot sea-level rise. By combining the two, the sequel demonstrates that the climate alarmism industry relies on moving the goalposts and catastrophising everyday weather events to cover up its own failed doomsday prophecies.

For sheer persistence in making spectacularly wrong climate predictions, the gold medal must go to Professor Peter Wadhams, the former Head of the Polar Ocean Physics Group at the University of Cambridge. Wadhams has carved out a unique place in history for himself as the climate doom-monger who just would not to let reality and truth get in the way of a terrifying headline!

His moving goalposts are fluidity in motion and his historical track record of failed prophecies plays out like a comedy of moving, well, goalposts!

First up; with absolute certainty, in 2012 he predicted that the Arctic would be completely “ice-free” by 2015 or 2016. Wow, I wonder how many coastal dwellers packed up and moved to the hills on that claim?

In 2014 we saw Wadhams first goalpost shift. Wouldn’t you know it, the ice stubbornly refused to melt on schedule, so Wadhams quietly revised his expiration date, guessing it might manage to last until 2020. Wrong!

Then in 2016 desperation descended on Wadhams. Sensing his original timeline was collapsing and not the ice shelf, he confidently doubled down, declaring the Arctic would finally vanish that very summer. But he sneaked in a hilariously deceptive caveat; redefining “ice-free” to mean the Arctic could still actually contain up to one million square kilometres of ice!

What we continually see in climate alarmism is a malicious, “rinse and repeat” cycle of collusion between global warming alarmists and a compliant MSM. The formula is as predictable as it is dishonest; journalists actively deploy academic hypotheses as terrifying, clickbait headlines to drive public fear and of course, sell more papers!

Then, they simply sit back.

When the subjective doomsday deadlines inevitably expire without incident, the MSM never prints a retraction or holds their pet “experts” accountable. Instead, they collaborate to bury the failed predictions, completely ignoring their previous deception before immediately pivoting to manufacture the next wave of panic.

When Professor Peter Wadhams was repeatedly shifting his Arctic goalposts, the MSM never questioned “moving goalposts,” instead they acted as his personal megaphone, eagerly laundering his hypotheses into absolute certainties.

These actions are exemplified when in September 2012, Wadhams predicted the imminent collapse of the ice sheet, The Guardian blasted the headline: “Arctic expert predicts final collapse of sea ice within four years.”

When that four-year window closed in 2016 and the Arctic ice stubbornly refused to vanish, Wadhams had doubled down in July 2013, warning of a near-term methane explosion, which The Guardian dutifully ran as: “Ice-free Arctic in two years heralds methane catastrophe.”

That deadline also came and went without a global disaster or a melted ice cap. By August 2016, as his timelines were completely falling apart, the hype machine reached its peak when, quoting Wadhams, the World Economic Forum published a piece declaring: “Ships will sail over the North Pole by 2017.”

That the North Pole remained firmly locked in ice, and the predictions were so wildly inaccurate, to me, proves that doomsday reporting regarding Global Warming/Climate Change isn’t about objective risk assessment and caution; it is an endless loop of manufactured fear enthusiastically endorsed by the MSM. The media blindly hypes these prophecies to drive clicks and panic, and when the target years pass without incident, they simply bury the old headlines and move on to the next scare tactic.

Ultimately, the grand prophecies of climate doom pushed by Al Gore and Peter Wadhams have been completely dismantled by the stubborn reality of the natural world. Gore’s terrifying visions of fully submerged coastal cities and Wadhams’ comedic string of rotating deadlines for an “ice-free” North Pole have exposed the entire climate alarmism movement as an exercise in manipulative scaremongering.

Decades after the “experts” foretold the ice would completely vanish, the Arctic sea ice shelf remains massive, reaching an expansive winter maximum of 14.29 million square kilometres. According to the National Snow and Ice Centre, a world leading, authoritative scientific research and data management centre based at the University of Colorado, even during its lowest seasonal point, the ice sheet continues to span millions of square kilometres; a vast frozen reality that stands as a definitive, mathematical rebuke to the institutional “experts” who traded objective science for cheap political theatrics.

Recent data from a study by climate scientists at the University of Exeter and Columbia University revealed an interesting nuance in polar climate dynamics. If you look specifically at the last two decades, the most recent peer-reviewed climate data shows that Arctic sea ice loss has slowed down considerably, with no statistically significant decline in September sea ice area since 2005.

According to the latest data from the Danish Meteorological Institute The High Arctic has transitioned into winter exceptionally fast, recording its lowest late-September temperatures in over two decades. The mean temperature north of 80°N crashed to -13.6°C on September 29, 2026. That reading is more than 7°C colder than the same date in 2025, marking the coldest late-September temperature captured for the region since at least the year 2000.

This abrupt temperature plunge has triggered a rapid refreeze surge across the Arctic Ocean.

Even after 72 different climate predictions failed to eventuate, our political idiots, who prefer being called politicians, continue to promote their brand of madness called Net Zero.
Why is it, that those unswayed by political bluster and corrupt media propaganda, despair at the enormous financial damage being done to our country to solve a problem that doesn’t exist?
Massive areas of productive farmland is being converted to carbon forests to appease the climate gods. We export our coal to run Chinese energy plants that manufacture solar panels and windmills and sell to fools like us.
My choice is simple on the 7th of Nov.
There are only two parties that offer meaningful change from this Climate madness.
Act have vowed to scrap net-zero targets and NZ First has campaigned on withdrawing from the Paris Agreement.

As anyone with just the lightest grip on reality knows, the solar system and this planet do exactly as they have done for millennia independently of anything the puny primate living here can do or say.

Given that the IPCC has officially retired the extreme high-emissions scenario known as RCP8.5 as an implausible trajectory for future baseline modelling it is clear to anyone that it has always been a really good scam and maybe not really catastrophic!

The great unwashed always need something to be scared of. Once it was spinning machines, steam engines, electricity, radio, TV, the internet and latterly, Global warming. Now the terror of AI has taken over from that. What next? Ardern returning from exile to lead a triumphantly resurgent Labour Party?

Who cares any more because that was back then. Now it is all conveniently forgotten, failed predictions waved away as no longer of important.

We have a new enemy - AI. The climate panic is over, now it is machines and computers that are our existential challenge. Now we just need some taxes to fund our protection.
