Won't back down on Māori issues – Ardern
The Prime Minister says her government won’t be backing down on advancing Māori issues, even if the National party frame co-governance as central to the 2023 general election.
“You know, you've got to always be able to sleep at night, knowing that you've done your best and you've done what you've believed is right.” Ardern told TeAoMaori.news
The Māori Health Authority, Three Waters and Māori seats on council, were things Ardern said the government was proud of in 2023.....

Is it time to change the name of New Zealand to Aotearoa?
More 70,000 people signed a petition released in August asking for New Zealand to be renamed Aotearoa.
But not everyone is on the same page.
A 1News Colmar Brunton poll last year found just 9 per cent of the country were willing to fully replace New Zealand with Aotearoa and just 31 per cent supported Aotearoa New Zealand.....

There appears to have been little or no progress on setting up a specialised Māori birthing unit in Hawke's Bay, a key recommendation of a critical review into racial discrimination in the region's maternity services.
A review into how Hawke's Bay Hospital treats Māori whānau in maternity care was commissioned after concerns were raised over the hospital's treatment of Māori, following a highly publicised uplift of a child in 2019.....

re the 3rd.It is incredible how out of touch with reality Jacinda is. Perhaps if she had a partner in the real world instead of the hobby fishing escape one, she would learn of the popular attitude. After that speech many Labour mps will be hunting through the Classifieds. Luxon should be doing cartwheels (or trying). When it eventually dawns the terrible damage they have done and are doing to democracy, race relations, operating efficiency, education by their maori pandering, many Labour mps are doomed not to sleep well at night. For reasons previously explained, co governance is effectively maori control and few public will accept that. Certainly not the more recent industrious (non Polynesian) immigrant communities. With the accumulating war chests National and Act should be able to effectively reach them and others. Indian dairy owners will not be voting for maori control. It is bad enough with ram raiding youths "imagining decolonisation" (and adopting) without the attitude being applied generally. It is likely the msm will soon realise the tide has turned and start to back the new winners. to date, their unquestioning subservience to the Labour (ie maori) line has been a major handicap.
The hard simple facts about Co-governance ( as a replacement for democracy - and as outlined in The He Puapua Report ) must hammered home relentlessly:
.50/50 power sharing means redistributed rights (privileging a specific minority)
.decision-makers are elected for 83% but appointed for 17%
.veto power( [ ultimate authority) is held by the 17% minority only.
Noone will vote for such a skewered system. Any government daring to impose this, could trigger civil unrest.

it is far more than the power of veto which skews co governance. Maori act as a coordinated bloc and it only takes one of the other to be conned, bribed, seduced, threatened by cancellation or physically, property or financially and maori prevail. Despite the folly of making the mechanism clear at this early stage, several situations have already demonstrated the disaster that is co governece. To date the msm has chosen not to significantly pick up on.
