Yesterday in the General Debate we were treated with a perfect opportunity to compare and contrast Christopher Luxon with Nicola Willis. Perhaps they might like to swap seats and jobs?
There is quit a difference. Christopher Luxon looks and sounds like a lightweight. Nicola Willis looks and sounds like she means business.
I’ll go further and suggest that Nicola Willis looks like she means business like Margaret Thatcher meant business.
I wouldn’t at all be surprised to hear that deals are already being done, given the plateauing of support for National and Luxon. Willis is biding her time. She has already done a deal with Gerry Brownlee over his job after the election. It’s no secret, mainly because, in between bites of sausage rolls, Gerry is telling everyone who cares to listen that he’s a shoo-in for Speaker when National wins.
Maybe, and I’m being charitable here, Christopher Luxon was having an off day, and Nicola Willis played a blinder. Or, this is more likely, when it comes to debating and politics Willis is a natural and Christopher Luxon is just faking it until he makes it.
There is a big difference between corporate weasel-speak and political speak. Willis seems to know the difference and is delivering up words and speeches that resonate. Luxon just delivers, weakly, his word soup.
Maybe I’m just a simple kind of guy who likes simple and blunt messages. Who knows? I could be completely wrong here, but I’m warming to a Willis-led National Party. Then again it’s still the National Party.
Discuss.

Go Nicola.
Oh yes please!!!!
Willis for National leader. Do it now, gives time for things to settle down before the election.
Unfortunstely Willis demonstrated a monstrous lapse of judgement by supporting the Enabling Houisng Supply Act, or at least its application to Auckland.
