Derek Mackie: Post-Election Reflections!

The election’s been and gone, but for those who voted, what does it mean?
I’ll paint you a scene. Once every three years we play the only hand we get
But it’s not done yet. Because those specials need to be factored in
Then the parties whirl and spin. Some entwine, some decline
Deals are formed in the MMP turbine. You just have to hope it’ll turn out fine

The electorate saw red and Labour got a hiding, their vote almost half
We shouldn’t laugh. But that’s what “kind and caring” socialism delivers
I still get the shivers. Racist co-governance hidden behind the facade of partnership
An extremist’s road trip. To anyone who reads the Treaty and understands “sovereignty”
It’s clear, on rights, we’re all entitled to equality. So let’s move forward as one country

Radical Lefties, the Greens, grew at Labour’s expense
Gee, you’ve got to be dense… to vote for a party that promotes social division
Tag-teamed with climate cataclysm. A benefits state where aspiration is frowned on
And tax-payers are milked from. Like freedom of opinion, dairy and meat options are just fine in my view
With a side of greens to chew through. Strictly controlled fare makes a dull and bland stew

As for Te Pati Maori, the major tyrants of the minority
They hurt Labour badly… winning more Maori seats than their party vote share
But I don’t care. Just more glaring examples of colonial blame-game hypocrisy
‘Cause Maori didn’t have a democracy… or a government or one-person-one-vote
Or anything modern of note. But the Maori Party did sink Mahuta’s “indigenous” boat.

Labour’s demise saw National rise, despite some disturbing similarity
Their leader lacking clarity… on fundamental issues important to voters
Who are intolerant of fence-sitters or no-hopers. But compared to the last 3 years, anything’s better
Than being hobbled by “progressive” fetters. So, now our PM’s from the corporate team
Nightmare or dream? He should improve the economy but will he back a woke theme

National were well short of governing alone, as we’d always thought
So partners were sought. Some obvious, like ACT… NZ First less appealing
Now’s the time for wheeling and dealing. Policy and positions traded for seats
Can Luxon stand the heat? It’s vital the littlies work together in tight coalition
It’s a tough proposition… but a united front on co-governance is the only position

The last is reserved for our mainstream media, who lean so far to the Left
Leaving “fair and balanced” bereft. Their bias is blatant, reflecting a slump in their ratings
But I’m tired of waiting. They’ve shown no remorse and are beyond hope and redemption
Only strict intervention… of a financial nature can make them rue their mistakes
Too late for the brakes. The cable’s been cut, it’s all downhill from here, to drown in the lake

The govt needs to cut advertising funding and support for the media. Compete in the free market.
Advertising has been used to sell govt agendas, not to inform. Govt abused their position. Transformation is needed of funding and the media.
