Mike's Minute: Trump is full of bullsh*t - but I think he'll win

If you forget the politics for a moment, a trait of Donald Trump I admire is his unrelenting persistence and unwavering belief.

In a contest no one can confidently call based on fact, as opposed to feels, or gut, or hope, I think I can very confidently say if Biden had stayed in it, it wouldn't even be close.

Age for age, just the sight of Trump stampeding across the landscape in the way he does would have left Biden gasping.

Trump out-campaigned Hillary Clinton 10 years ago. He might well be doing the same thing in 2024.

Biden was the antidote, and it worked, but they never thought past that. That will be a soul-searching exercise as to why not later tonight if things don’t go well.

The sad bit about Trump for me is he isn't very good. He doesn’t represent high office well, which isn't to say he can't win, obviously, or indeed win twice.

There is a combination of luck and genius in his recipe. He got lucky he faced Clinton, a Washington insider with a pile of shabby baggage.

He got lucky he faced Biden, who was so bad they ejected him for another insider, not so much with baggage this time, just nothing your average American can get their head around.

What I can't work out is whether it's luck, or genius he's been able to become impervious to scandal.

Forget the fringe nutters - the simple truth is he is a convicted felon. He is a grubby, loudmouth with no sophistication. He's just a wannabe desperate for high office and power.

Not that he wasn’t a half-decent president. Too many of the Liberals who hate him forget that the world didn’t end between 2016 and 2020.

He's a conservative on economics and the economy was fine, if not healthy. He's an isolationist, which suits a lot of Americans because "America first" resonates.

My international high point was his success with NATO. He embarrassed a record number of countries into paying their way. That's solid leadership.

I dislike his dishonesty.

When he was president, it wasn’t the greatest economy, as he claims.

He wasn’t the greatest president. It wasn’t the cleanest air and the purest water

Essentially, he's full of bullsh*t. But a lot of the BS is show and the Liberals don't see that.

He doesn’t want the media literally shot. You can't take him literally. Why can't they see that?

That’s why so many of them will combust if he wins, as they have no sense of humour, or at least of the absurd, which is what this race has been.

I ask you this - is the bigger story Trump winning, or the Democrats not being able to win?

Because if you want a gut call, I think that’s how it's going to play out.

Trump may not be honest, but in that department he has nothing on "he puapua isn't government policy" Jacinda and "I didn't know we were speeding" Helen.

Trump, like a certain recently departed NZ PM is a narcissist and lives in his own world. Personally I do not like him and never have since he came into my conciousness because he is all bluff and bluster.

That said his form of politics is not perfect but in its uncertainty it has more certainty than the insanity of Harris and her clear inability to think critically, laterally (or at all) and that creates even more uncertainty.

When the President of the USA is away the foxes in the hen house will play (and we have seen that occur). Trump like or dislike at least keeps the foxes from the hens.....

All politicians lie at some stage of their career - some have to for the sake of national security. That doesn’t make it acceptable but in most cases if it is due to the latter, then perhaps it is understandable.
But as you rightly point out, it is often hard to decide if Trump is telling outright porkies or making hyperbolic comment (an exaggerated reference to event that involved him or one of his opponents.) Trump successfully uses his talents as a showman to put himself in a good light and most of his followers like him for it.
They also appreciate that he is offering himself as a candidate for the highest office in the world based on his track record in that job - warts and all .
You can’t make it up .
His term as President was pretty darn good for most Americans and in fact, also for most of us in the Free World. It compares favourably with most of his recent predecessors, including even Reagan so my guess is that, if Trump is re-elected , it will be because of the voters memories of a past experience they want to enjoy again. You can’t blame them ot him for that.

If you get your news about Trump from the US MSM you'll easily come to the conclusion Trump is full of BS because the US MSM is full of BS about Trump.
If you read alternative sources or watch some of his many interviews you would come to a different conclusion.
Yes he is very brash, compared to the average Kiwi, but he was from New York and if you have been there you will know the average New Yorker is like that. Yes he is a showman and not totally boring like many politicians.
He did very well in his first term even though, by his own admission, he did not really know how DC worked and how deep the swamp is.
American voters only have one option and the rest of the world should have their fingers crossed they take that option.

It’s very telling that Hosking tolerates his mate Richard Arnold (voice from America) who is clearly infected with Trump Derangement Syndrome, denigrates him day after day. How easy to sit behind the mic in the sanctuary of a studio screaming bullshit and firing barbs about Trumps suitability for high office. There are plenty of traditional empty suits holding high office whose actual achievements are zilch for the country but super wealthy for themselves.
If Hosking was worldly enough to understand the ramifications of Trump failing to retake the Whitehouse he may change his tune because this election boils down to the most consequential in our life time.

In recent weeks, we have been delivered "the news re the US Presidential Candidates and their attempts to woe voters".
Sadly we have here in NZ had our MSM "deliver on behalf of Kamala Harris and follow US MSM on the negatives of Donald Trump".
Also the Legal issues faced by Donald Trump and this was reported in America (but not in NZ) that they were nothing but "political side shows" attempting to derail the Trump campaign,
The Court Case in New York, how can a Judge "withhold a conviction until the Voting has concluded"? Oh, yes he will deliver "a verdict", but it will not be in Trump's favour - strange that!
Oh and Mike Hoskings, please give examples of the Criminal Felonies, laid against Trump that have been proven in a Court of Law.
For those of here in NZ, who have used access to YouTube to gain a better understanding of the campaigns by both Harris & Trump, it has clearly shown that Ms.Harris has been, still is and if becoming the President - totally incapable of being a leader, Anon @ 10.38 AM alludes to this.
Across many Articles, posted this platform, those who have written on the US & Election process, there have been many comments re Trump vs Harris, more in line with NZ V US Trade, and the negativity on this topic. With Trump our trade will improve, with Harris (if she becomes President) -the potential for it to disappear is very high. Also David Lange did more harm to NZ - US Trade relations, but we seem to overlook that, why?
There are many written articles & books, the latter you will not see in either Whitcoull's or PaperPlus that are interesting reads on the People in Politics, within America (both at State & Federal Level) who have been identified as being "politically corrupt"(money for favours) and both Harris, Biden Obama & other Democrats feature prominently. Odd that - has Trump been accused of Political favoritism? If so when?
At the moment, I wonder how China fells because they will be (again) a big trade target with increased tariff's, just like 2017.

There are approx. 250million Americans and at a guess, 80% of those, 200million, could qualify to be a candidate for the big chair. Assume a 50/50 split between the main parties and there are 100 million Republicans who could have been chosen to be the Presidential candidate, and Trump is the best??????

As mentioned on another blog on this site , whatever you think of Trump , he has attracted several quality people to be in his close support group like Tulsi Gabbard . They will be better at discerning his value than those who only have MSM media to make assessments.

I think the "elephant in the room" that most people are ignoring is the trend towards fear, anger & the vitriolic division that politics has created in the West & particularly in the USA. When loonies are taking pot shots at presidential candidates that cant travel without an army of personal protection, cant speak publicly without hiding behind bulletproof screens, are caught lying repeatedly without recourse & resort to gutter tactics to smear their opposition instead of standing on the merit of their platforms, then our current form of "leadership" has become irrelevant & must be abandoned. The USA has the finest Constitution & Bill of Rights of any country in the face of the earth, which like the rest of the West, has devolved into "too many laws, not enough justice".
The fuse has been lit...

Looks like it will be a penalty vote - not that much for Trump but definitely against the democrats.

Trump conclusively demontrates the old maxim that "Nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American people". So if he wins, the American people will get exactly what they deserve. That's democracy folks.

A grubby loudmouth wannabe with no sophistication - so true.

But he is no more about self-interest than the Kennedy, Clinton & Bush families, & unlike them, at least he doesn’t pretend to be something that he’s not. He might be a convicted felon, but at least he doesn’t insert America into wars they have no business being a part of, let alone sacrifice hundreds of thousands of lives & hundreds of billions of $ to make a handful of people, including their own families, richer. 9/11 didn’t happen in a vacuum.

Trump is an unpleasant buffoon to look at & listen to, but he achieved far more than Obama, has a refreshing approach to foreign policy, gives us all a never ending supply of memes &, unlike Harris, knows what a woman is (you can’t purport to defend women’s reproductive rights if you don’t recognise basic biology).

So I’d call that a win.

I am dismissive of those who attack with ad hominem crap a man who has climbed the steepest public ladder to presidency. I welcome the succcess he has achieved so far this election by President Trump elect . President Trump cut his business history developing real estate and constructing huge buildings etc.. His work was based around solving challenges that most people would simply not understand or be incapable of solving as problems surface in construction and development hourly ,daily ,weekly without exception . The man is not politically experienced from years in congress / senate , but he is a problem solver and will be a magnificent president for the USA and the world as he proved in his first term .
