Within weeks, Putin sends 800 drones across the border - the biggest attack of the war so far.
He’s targeted EU and British government buildings in Kyiv. He’s now entered NATO airspace. The fighter jets were scrambled. The alarm bells rang in Brussels.
Does any of this sound like progress?
Does any of this sound like diplomacy is doing a god damn thing to stop regular folk being slaughtered in the crossfire?
No, of course not.
Meanwhile Netanyahu’s firing missiles into Doha.
And who was he aiming for?
The Hamas lead negotiator. The same guy who, as recently as last week, was being given ceasefire details from the Americans via the Egyptians and Qataris.
If you really want peace, you don’t fire missiles at the guy you’re negotiating with.
Now if you’re Hamas, what are you going to do now the place you thought was safe to have talks no longer feels safe?
Some in Hamas believe the whole thing was a set-up, according to the BBC.
The American ceasefire proposal was all a trick to get them in one place at time, then bang. Bomb them. Blow them up.
Can’t blame them for thinking that.
It doesn’t matter where you look, which continent, which war, diplomacy is not working.
The Americans look weak. Trump looks weak. Netanyahu’s taking him for a ride. Putin couldn’t care less.
And one guy in the world sitting back watching, smiling, biding his time, and growing a military empire is Xi Jinping of China.

The day before the hit on the Hamas leaders a bus full of innocent civilians was blown up in Israel. Hamas is ruthless, why give them any credit? They don't want to negotiate. Their goal as stated is to eliminate Israel. The Israelis probably had intelligence to suggest their military attack on the Hamas leaders would get results, and it did. An instant decision was made.
I am not sure why people want President Trump to "rush in where angels fear to tread". It looks as if India and China are aiding Russia therefore a more measured approach needs to continue for a while yet, regretfully for the poor young men on both sides who have to fight in this war. Anyway, Trump would be given the best course of action from his top military, he is not a military strategist himself.
And the reason to call President Trump and US weak is Ryan ?
NZ absolutely need a Foreign Ministry with broadcasters opinions attacking our allies and friends.
every part of this article 100% correct
Trump has never tried to hide the fact that he wants to turn America into an island. He seems to be more effective in doing that in his second term, and globally it is playing out pretty much as you’d expect.
Ryan, I am amazed at the "stupidity" OF THE NZ MSM in the matter of Ukraine. I believe this stems from "inward looking" ability to source news, research on subject or seek independent input.
If one seeks overseas content, excluding the BBC, you will see very different data (and video footage) presented and when one listens to Leaders of European Countries (exclude Macron here)
you will hear - a presentation of potential intent (from Putin) and fear at what it likely to happen.
Mr. Putin, when he first became President of Russia was interviewed and one comment he made, at the time, had people across Europe (possibly England & America) sit up and take notice.
That comment was " he lamented the demise of the USSR".
Now if you look at every action since he became President "for life" you may see actions that tend to lead to what his "ultimate objective is".
Also look at how quickly the Baltic States (former USSR entities) suddenly became members of NATO - ditto Finland & Sweden, also Turkey.
Now another part of that interview was "his" view on Ukraine - which has along history of being anti Russia - especially when Ukraine sided with Germany, establishing a Military Unit (the sleeve emblem developed then, is still used today) - that became parts of the SS Armour Brigades - when Russia entered Ukraine 1944, the retribution was unparalleled.
Also Ukraine had "a revolution" that got rid of a Russian appointed President & Russian influence" - something that Putin did not like.
So if anyone thinks, or has thought that Putin wants a "ceasefire" my suggestion is seek mental health counselling.
Putin's intent with Ukraine, flattened the Country.
Putin said also anyone who wanted USSR back was an idiot. Indeed read more of the history .This war is the culmination of the Nato agenda . The socalled Russian narrative is correct.
There is money in war..... lots of it.
American weapons and munitions factories are privately owned.
Dick Cheney and G W Bush used the gulf war to manufacture the largest transfer of wealth, in American history, from the middle class to the wealthy .
Before the gulf war the American middle class had the highest standard of living in the world.
Now they are the only developed country whose life expectancy is dropping.
where is the evidence the bus was blown up by Hamas? Only Israel's unhinged propaganda.
Reply to Orowhana. BBC, NBC,RNZ,STUFF,CNN et al.....hardly pro-Israeli media... more like pro-Hamas, one would think.
