Wayne Brown is a plain speaking man who says what he means and damn the consequences. Yesterday the Auckland Council voted to quit the most useless quango organisation in New Zealand, Local Government NZ, and in the process has saved Auckland City at least $640,000.
As a parting gift for good measure, he called them out as a bunch of self-interested pissheads.
Auckland’s mayor Wayne Brown has used his casting vote for the first time, pulling Auckland Council out of the sector group Local Government New Zealand (LGNZ).
Brown had called for a review of the council’s membership, which costs around $400,000 a year in membership and conference costs, and spoke disparagingly of its value.
The mayor said his band had played a conference, and at a past one in the Bay of Islands “watching 800 members of local boards getting pissed and dancing the night long for no benefit to ratepayers questioned my value of it”.
The withdrawal of the council’s largest local body will be immediate – and went against the views of 15 of the city’s 21 local boards which supported remaining a member.

Yeah but local boards don’t count; if they did they’d have a vote. The media are only pushing that because the council vote doesn’t suit their agenda.
What the media should be doing is contacting Stuart Crosby, the LGNZ President to get him to try and deny the piss ups. But they won’t; they will attack Wayne Brown even harder now.
The bottom line is that LGNZ has been captured by the woke wombles and has gone all in on Three Waters despite the reservations of most of its constituent councils. They serve no sensible purpose and are in fact a drag on civil society and governance. To prove my point, check what the head weasel had to say:
“This decision also has an enormous impact on elected members who are under-represented such as our Maori elected members and the young,” Crosby said.
“It’s really disappointing that the Mayor has used his casting vote to leave LGNZ.
“The irony of cost savings now means Auckland ratepayers will now have to pick up the bill – Auckland were to benefit from more than a million dollars a year in savings associated with their membership.
“This decision also has an enormous impact on elected members who are underrepresented such as our Maori elected members and young elected members. By leaving, they’ve ignored the view of the majority of local boards.”
Stuff
An enormous impact on Maori? Really? Please explain. He won’t be able to though, will he? Because the sad fact is there will be zero impact of leaving. Just as there was zero impact in belonging.
Hopefully, this will precipitate other councils into quitting too. Time’s up on these boat-anchor organisations holding New Zealand back as they pander to animism and stone age beliefs to the detriment of society as a whole.

Completely supportive of Wayne Brown's decision. Good on him for an independent thinker.
The more i read of Brown the more I like him. It is now rare to read anything from govt or Council directly worded. He has probably forestalled an instruction that all Councils open with a karakia. His response would likely have also been direct and apt.
Need a few more mayors like Wayne Brown to show a bit of backbone and stare down the labour cult with their undemocratic bullying actions. Rather disappointed that he had to use his casting vote. Obviously has some labour sycophants in the mix.
And concerning 3 Waters, maybe 2 years ago, LGNZ voted to support it without consulting it's members. That was reprehensible and good on Wayne Brown for sticking it to them. I hope many councils cancel as well if they have the guts to.

I wouldn't count on Wayne Brown being able to stop / prevent a karakia at council meetings.
Good on him.
