Cam Slater: It’s Time to Make Changes

Late yesterday afternoon we heard that the deals are done and the various parties are now informing their boards and caucuses, ahead of an announcement and signing ceremony later on today.

The leaders of National, ACT and NZ First have issued a joint statement, confirming their plan to seal the coalition deal tomorrow.

“Negotiations to form a government that will deliver for all New Zealanders have concluded,” the joint statement says.

“The parties are now going through their respective party processes for final sign-off and we expect that process to be completed this evening.

“Subject to agreement by all parties, a signing ceremony will take place tomorrow at Parliament.”

National leader Christopher Luxon is expected to speak to reporters at Parliament at 4:45pm. We will live stream the press stand up.

Let’s hope that the various parties have listened to the voters and are going to make meaningful changes to undo much of the damage caused by the last Government.

The Media Party will no doubt begin their assault on our new NZ Government from the get-go. They are part of the problem, not the solution.

There is much to do and the new Government really needs to hit the ground running.

But the reality is most people simply don’t care and just want action. Let’s hope that the agreements signal the important changes that are needed.

Well it finally feels like the adults are in charge once more. Can you inagine what it would have been like waiting for labour, hamas nz and the gangs to form a govt? The thought sends absolute chills down my spine.

Now or never.

ACT and NZF did so well in this election because they picked up on the electorate's demand for change, principally around co-governance and the TOW, something that Luxon refused to engage in. If this govt. fails to deliver on these items, I think that National will severely punished in 2026.

The problem is next election and the test will be to see if National manages to kill its co parties.
Allan is correct this time National are in the sights and their resistance to change will be judged.
