It's only the start of Wednesday so let's be honest we've only had two days of news, and we already have two stories around power.
The first was Transpower saying we need to find more avenues of power generation and we need to do that quickly, because until all the promised transition stuff comes online, we are going to be short of capacity.
No kidding.
They said we have a lot of promises on renewables, but the delivery isn't happening all that quickly.
No kidding.
The second was Genesis saying they are looking at what they call a fast-start generation plant at Huntly.
Hasn’t Huntly become quite the “thing”? A while back Huntly was the ugly girlfriend of the power generation family.
Poor, old, ugly, fat Huntly. That was when promises around wind and sun were flying and the future was renewable, and we would all save the planet.
What a gargantuan cock-up that turned out to be. Now for at least the third winter in a row the industry is falling over itself to tell us what's not right, what's not delivered and drumming up new ideas that, dare I suggest, should have been drummed up a long time ago.
As regards Huntly gas and coal, could I ask why is it now that they are dreaming up these ideas?
The coal pile, by the way, has never been larger, but gas and coal take 12 hours to get going. In short, fast start, it says what it does, and you turn it on like a light.
Can I ask why is it now that all the power companies are cooperating around Huntly to keep it going for years to come?
Why is it we wait until we are broken to actually find a few solutions?
When Jacinda made her captain's call to kill the gas industry, why did no one in power go “hold on, we aren't ready"?
Why are so few proactive? Why is so little preventative planning done?
Why do we have winters of angst around rainfall and businesses cutting production and Methanex selling their power to others?
Why is it we wait until we don’t have it to think of what to do about getting it back?
NZ Inc, eh? Very 1986.

Very simple, all the power companies are private companies, looking after their own interests.
Bugger the big picture.
Huntly is now the darling because it’s the only reliable way to generate electricity regardless of the weather. That ain’t changed in the 70 years of its operation.
Wind and solar wont even make it past 15 years.

The mess we find ourselves in Mike is because we have suffered deluded leadership for decades. Whether it was Labour or the current Uni Party, their message has been consistent as they diligently follow the greatest scam known to man. What was hatched by the Club of Rome in the late 70s has morphed into a religious cult. Discussion is verboten as these climate puritans wreck our economy with their net zero fantasies.
Energy is a fundamental driver of modern economies. It underpins virtually all economic activity, from powering homes and businesses. Reliable and affordable energy access is crucial for economical growth.
“Economic growth is the key to better days ahead” says Luxon as he tolerates our chronic power shortage.
It will take years to build another hydro dam or a nuclear plant but coal fired generation could be built in very short order.
Mike, this is happening on your watch. You claim you have the country’s ear. Do some research and you may discover that you and most of the public have been conned by the greatest lie ever told.
Promote electric vehicles, invest in “renewable” energy schemes that barely pay of themselves & now act surprised there is a lack of power.
This is the labour/green way
Ofcourse in their imagined utopia of the medieval ages there was no need for power. Now if only they could figure out a way to stop horses farting they’d have it made š¤¦♂️

The steady degradation of the Anglosphere culture is well underway, and the collapse of the energy system is just part of the process. The top echelons know this very well, but the rest of us just look on, slack jawed at how hopeless all the hierarchy seem to be. Relax, feel the malevolence!
I realise LPG is dear to purchase , but the plant is available now in smaller modules, which can be placed close to the customers which will , eliminate the Transpower transmission cost. Now calculate the plant cost difference between a 50 mw gas plant and hydro, nuclear or coal and you could purchase a lot of LPG to equalise the cost of the electricity. ETS costs , well middle finger is ok .
