New Zealand’s net migration gain has plunged to 12,400 in the year to September 2025 — its lowest September total since 2013 outside the pandemic years — as record numbers of New Zealanders leave the country, according to provisional figures from Stats NZ.

The fall from last year’s net gain of 42,400 reflects both a drop in migrant arrivals and a surge in departures, with 126,400 people leaving in the past year.
The most striking shift was among New Zealand citizens, who recorded a near-record net loss of 46,400, driven by a provisional all-time high of 72,700 citizens moving overseas.
Around 58 percent headed to Australia, and more than a third of those were born overseas. Meanwhile, non-citizen migration remained relatively steady with a net gain of 58,800, though arrivals from India and the Philippines declined. Stats NZ says migration trends reflect global labour markets, economic conditions, and changing immigration policies.

At least 3/4 of Kiwis can see through Nicola Willis and Simon Watts pathetic dishonesty.
Many Kiwis recognize Watts and Willis are steering NZ towards the same disaster the UK finds themselves in. With corruption in all political parties enriching the politicians and their families at the expense of UK citizens.
Watts is even still promoting the anthropogenic climate disaster fraud. Did Watts miss Bill Gates exposing the fraud to the world?
Is this really what you entered politics to achieve Mr Luxon?
And to Bishop, Brown, Stanford, Upston, McClay, Mitchell, Reti, and Chourr...
Why are you standing by and allowing Watts and Willis undermine all the great work you've put into your respective portfolios?
Instead of walking away with the reputation you all deserve, you're going to go down in history as the cabinet ministers who stood by and did nothing about the ongoing Australian big business fraud and resulting degradation of kiwis lives.
Nicola Willis mysterious $48m gift to kapahaka is reason enough to leave!
There appears to be no clear data available to indicate why so many are quitting NZ, only the vague claims that it is driven by economics and the cost of living. Are the people leaving expressly asked if racial tensions and in particular the Maorification/Co-governance situation is a factor ... because it is reasonable to assume that it is? National were very eager to suppress discussion of that factor at the '23 election and seem allergic to any hint that they are not doing enough to deal with it - in spite of the obvious fact that they are not doing enough in that regard.
