I'm sceptical of the effectiveness of the Maori Health Authority, but willing to be persuaded. If they genuinely can improve health outcomes for Maori, that would be great.
But I just can't imagine what 400 staff are going to do. That is nearly three times as many as Pharmac.
The number of two year old Maori children that are not fully vaccinated has increased from 7% (in 2017) to 35%. this is a potential disaster. Is the Maori Health Authority going to turn this around?

Still to come are hospitals, vehicles, admin buildings, you name it.

Isn't this just symptomatic of this broken Left wing government?
In New Zealand, we are drastically short of nurses, doctors, pharmacists and other real health care workers.
But - No! we have to have 400 staff in the "Maori Health authority".

Well - we all know by now, it's just pandering to the apartheid policies of Labour.
All part of the bigger He Puapua plan to have Maori at every level suckling on the teat of the taxpayer. If they're not pulling a pension at Health, they'll be 'employed' providing 'consultancy', or oversight, or giving lessons in Te Reo, Matariki, Tikanga, Matauranga etc. - all imparting 'Te Ao Maori' - which is essentially: find a mug, then milk them for all they've got.
What a rort.
I agree entirely with you this increase in staff, is appalling.
It also means more medicalization of Maori as well when a big part of their bad health stats is actually partially due to poor nutrition, poor housing and poor education. Junk food, poor health choices, smoking and vaping are also factors as they are for all SES people.
With such a large number perhaps 50 or so staff have been dedicated to maori family planning as this offers the greatest scope for reduction of poverty, improved child progress, effective control of child and teenager behaviour, improved school attendance and parental interets etc., all urgently necesary if anything approaching equality of outcome is to be acheived.
