Ele Ludemann: Conduct unbecoming

Green MP Julie Anne Genter showed a complete lack of self-control in parliament yesterday:

Julie Anne Genter was forced to apologise for intimidating Mental Health Minister Matt Doocey during a debate in the House.

It happened as Labour MP Rachel Boyack was speaking on the Government’s transport policy.

Parliament TV footage showed Genter rising from her seat, approaching Doocey with a stack of papers and yelling while standing over him. . . .

This is at the minor end of threatening behaviour. I doubt that Matt Doocey feared for his safety, but it would have been unpleasant for him, it is conduct unbecoming of anyone, let alone an MP and it is seriously inappropriate behaviour in parliament.

Had it been a man acting in this way the response would almost certainly be far stronger. Tim van de Molen was stripped of his portfolios after being accused of standing over another MP in a select committee last year.

It is no wonder that children show no respect to adults when this is how they see adults behaving.

And while we’re talking about the Greens, why is it taking so long to deal with the accusations of migrant exploitation by another of their MPs, Darleen Tana?

This is just another example of childish tantrum throwing and bad behaviour by Greens.
And this is the self styled social justice party that consistently lectures us on how we should live.

This behaviour is totally unacceptable. If she is not censured then it erodes the stature of parliament.

Some commentators are putting Genters outburst down to her "passion". I"m wondering if she was simply pissed and/or stoned after attending James Shaws
farewell do.

Isn't it interesting that a significant portion of this shrieking, bullying and intimidating behavior comes from women on the radical and dishonest left of politics in NZ? Several examples over the past 6-12 months or so of those who are not slow to call out men for this type of behavior really showcases their hypocrisy.
