The Greens might be with us physically but mentally they’re somewhere else.

JAG (Julie Anne Genter) is once again losing her RAG (Raging Activated Gene), which causes her to angrily wander off into her parallel universe; one completely devoid of reality. This time, unsurprisingly, she is more than a little upset by Simeon Brown’s transport policy announcement. She describes it as “terrible”. It comes at a time when, she says, people are biking more than ever. Maybe in her parallel universe they are, but certainly not on Auckland’s roads. Not on the rest of the country’s roads either. If I were Simeon Brown right now I’d be asking for parliament security protection.

Another day and yet another bad headline for the Green Party. This time it is Julie Anne Genter who was found to be in contempt of the house when she went and stood over National MP Matt Doocey.

It will be interesting to see what the Green Party will do with Julie Anne Genter given the open letter from Pasfika Greens about the double standards the party seems to have when dealing with Julie Anne Genter compared to how Darleen Tana and Elizabeth Kerekere were handled.

So, another week and another Green MP is in trouble. This time Julie-Anne Genter, who broke the rules of Parliament when aggressively crossing the aisle and physically fronting government minister. It then turns out she has allegedly been aggressive to several business people in Wellington as well. I suspect there is more to come – the old, ‘where there is smoke, there’s fire.’

Another allegation has come to light against Green MP Julie Anne Genter, with a business owner claiming the MP, who is working from home after an incident this week in Parliament, grabbed her arm “and gave it quite a strong shake” as they spoke.

Wellington business owner Nicola Cranfield said she saw Genter at Midlands Park at the end of last year.

In 2018, a Minister of the Crown and New Zealand Member of Parliament, Julie Anne Genter, herself a relatively-recent migrant to New Zealand, addressed a group of ten-year-olds at a Christchurch primary school. She  decried the presence of “old, white men” (or OWMs) on the boards of New Zealand organisations and demanded they “move aside”. 

Why this Minister in the Ardern-led government should not only comment on such an issue to kiddies who probably had no idea at all what a board (of trustees, directors or advisors) actually do, but  make such comments to such an audience? Most youngsters present would undoubtedly have much-loved older uncles or granddads who fitted this description. So, in the young mind, “old white men” were suddenly painted by this Minister as some sort of “enemy” to be removed and replaced by younger, more able and preferably female, board members.
