News:
Minister rejects urgent Waitangi Tribunal request to pause curriculum roll-out

Erica Stanford said her curriculum agenda would continue despite an urgent request by the Waitangi Tribunal to pause all further curriculum changes until its report on potential treaty breaches is released on September 9.

The tribunal issued the urgent direction on August 7, prior to the release of the years 0-10 science and social sciences curriculum on August 12, which went ahead as planned.

Ahead of the full report, the tribunal expressed concern the curriculum reforms could dilute the place of “local te ao Māori content” and that insufficient engagement and input from Māori and the education sector would result in flaws in curriculum content.....(paywalled)

Kāinga Ora seeks new buyer for controversial Flagstaff site
Kāinga Ora’s search for the next owner of a 1.9-ha Flagstaff section continues after Waikato-Tainui turned it down.

Kāinga Ora Waikato regional director Mark Rawson has confirmed Waikato-Tainui had passed on the Endeavour Avenue site, which the iwi was offered first refusal on.

The site was formerly earmarked by the country’s largest residential landlord for a controversial 60-home social-housing development, but plans were scuppered following a public backlash.....(paywalled)
