Tories back plan to prioritise firm power
The Conservatives have said that households could save about £540 a year after 2030 if net zero regulations are scrapped with a commitment to make energy as cheap as possible. A report published by centre-right think tank Onward and backed by the Tories said the cost of net zero came to an extra £540 per household a year between 2030 and 2050.
EDF: grid upgrades are spiralling out of control
The costs of upgrading Britain’s energy grid for net zero threaten to spiral out of control, EDF has warned. The French energy company, which operates the UK’s nuclear fleet, said a £70bn programme to modernise the grid faced a tripling in construction costs, far outstripping initial forecasts. Rising prices mean that Labour’s 2030 Net Zero target could cost billions more than expected.
Climate campaigners use OnlyFans to promote Net Zero
Desperate climate campaigners have turned to the adult entertainment industry to help promote their message amongst young males. Channel 4 News reports that the campaign is designed to challenge so-called “petro-masculinity” culture online.

Romania restarts coal
Romania has this week restarted a 300-megawatt coal-fired power plant to partially offset the generation lost by the closure of nuclear electricity output after the low water level on the Danube river forced a shutdown of the country’s only nuclear power plant. The low water levels on the Danube has also affected Hungary’s only nuclear power plant. Hungary is sinking barges in the Danube to keep its nuclear power plant, which generates a third of the country’s electricity, running.
