Rahul Sen: India could soon be the world’s third biggest economy

India’s economy has emerged as a bright spot in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently the fifth largest global economy, it is predicted to become the third largest by 2030.
It is expected India will contribute 15.4% to global economic growth this year, second only to China. Prioritising our trade and economic relationship with both countries should be a key goal for New Zealand.

It was to Singapore and Japan, where we got a visa adjustment that allowed 300 instead of 200 people with certain skills into the country. Whether any of them come is another matter, of course, as raised by the Employers and Manufacturers Association yesterday.
There were a couple of Toyotas powered by hydrogen that are going to part of some trial here in a bid to boost hydrogen use.

This is far from Jacinda Ardern’s first foreign trip – but it almost feels like one.
Ardern’s tour of Japan and Singapore this week is the first trip abroad by New Zealand’s Prime Minister in 781 days. Ardern has not travelled outside the country since February 2020.
The Government is calling the trip a ‘trade mission’ to show that ‘New Zealand is open for business’, given the phased removal of New Zealand’s Covid-19 border restrictions.

interviewed me on the topic. My firm has paid particular attention recently to the way
FTAs (Free Trade Agreements) can effectively over-ride Parliamentary
sovereignty (our legal self determination).
