JC: My Life Was Saved for a Reason

Christopher Luxon needs to take heed if he wants National to remain the dominant force in this country.

Of everything that Donald Trump said on Inauguration Day, and not surprisingly he said plenty, there was one sentence that resonated with the country more than any other. It was, “My life was saved for a reason: I was saved by God to make America great again.” It served as a reminder that, whatever your religion, whatever other differences there may be, America is one nation under God.

This is a premise we would do well to follow in this country. Whatever race you belong to, we are one nation under God. That means we have equal rights: one person one vote and people are treated equally on the basis of need, not on the basis of race. That means freedom of speech and freedom to go about your daily life without excessive government interference, and everyone gets to have a say on matters concerning constitutional principles.

THAT MEANS SENDING THE TREATY PRINCIPLES BILL TO A PUBLIC REFERENDUM.

If you watched President Trump’s address, the above was central to his speech. It felt like he was bringing the country back from an abyss. His speech was what I would term ‘scorched earth’, because it was right in the faces of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. They had to sit and listen to a list of their wrong doings that he was going to put right. He received standing ovations too numerous to mention.

There was a feeling a sense of normalcy is returning to America. He pledged to give people back their faith, their wealth, their democracy and, indeed, their freedom. Trump described January 20, 2025 as “liberation day”. He declared a ‘national energy emergency’ and “we will drill, baby drill”. Standing ovation. The ‘green new deal’ and electric vehicle mandates will be gone. People will be able to buy the car of their choice.

“I will sign an Executive Order to stop all government censorship and bring free speech back to America.” Another standing ovation. He went on to say, “This week I will also end the government policy of trying to socially engineer race and gender into every aspect of public and private life. We will forge a society that is colourblind and merit based. As of today it will henceforth be the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders: male and female.” STANDING OVATION!

Among the Executive Orders he signed were a freeze on hiring government employees, all government workers to return to their offices, a withdrawal from the Paris Climate Treaty (according to Trump this will save Americans over a trillion dollars), an end to government censorship and the return of free speech, as well as an end to the weaponisation of government agencies against political adversaries.

I don’t care whether you like this man or not: the world would be a much better, safer and wealthier place if leaders of all political shades around the globe, including New Zealand, followed his no-nonsense style of leadership. What Trump is embarking on is a mission to turn America back to a form of social justice where the norms of society as we know them are returned.

The world is in a very dangerous place. It needs a reset. Terrorism must be eliminated, wars must be stopped, education systems must return to a back-to-basics approach, parents must be allowed to bring up their children without government interference, safe energy practices must be permitted, a practice of equal opportunity and need regardless of race must be adhered to, two genders only must be acknowledged and no males should be participating in female sports.

These things were all tenets of Trump’s speech: a return to normality in all facets of our lives. If those in charge in this country were to follow his lead, we would find ourselves living in a more peaceful and prosperous country than is currently the case. This is not where we are, but without doubt it is where we need to be. We need an end to the race-based policies and a return to a one-nation state where everyone is equal.

This is Trump’s agenda and it will be fascinating to see how it pans out. He is showing not just business acumen but a realisation that the people are crying out for policies that make the family a cornerstone of the fabric of society. It should also be our agenda. Christopher Luxon needs to take heed if he wants National to remain the dominant force in this country. He needs to recognise that Trump, by acknowledging these things, won the election in a landslide. How about it Christopher?
