Michael Laws > "This is very possibly the most important interview in the history of The Platform because the exposure of the sabotage or intended sabotage of the government's educational objectives by senior public servants within the Ministry of Education, as contained in the 'Education and Training Amendment Bill number two'....."
Writer and former broadcaster Michael Laws, who served as an MP and Mayor, is now a councillor on the Otago Regional Council, and talkback host on The Platform.

Assuming that this doesn’t reflect government policy (doubtful), everyone in the Ministry of Education (except clerical staff) should be sacked forthwith and be replaced with new people with an interest in education rather than indoctrination. This would not only direct the focus of education to learning but also provide a salutary lesson to other bureaucrats ignoring government directives.
Heaven help us . This is appalling . Home schooling is now the only sensible choice for those who don't wish their children to indoctrinated into what many would consider a cult. Withdraw your kid from school as a protest . There is a strong homeschooling movement , which started in the 1980s . Get together with other parents to share supervision of your children .
Michael, as a teacher, I have the same concerns. What mystifies me is how the coalition government is letting so much of this stuff through. They need to nail their true colours to the mast so we can shift our political support accordingly. I think National is divided on the treaty, as comments by its former leaders indicate. We have been duped for long enough. It seems their strategy is to divert attention by taking about the cost of living thus avoiding the growing racialization of NZ and its public service. And you are right, we are seeing the emergence of a new state religion. Do they not know anything about history?
National is divided. There is a strong element sympathetic to the Maori victim and ,,progressive,, narratives ...a version of the Teals in Oz but on different issues. Lose their votes and there is a thumping change of govt as they will drift to Labour. National is trying to be all things to as many as possible to retain votes or see its support from the UK Lib Dems equivalent element break off to Labour. National is not a conservative party.
This may seem a little harsh but I can't believe how naive some New Zealanders are. People are only reading what they want to read and believing what they want to believe. Erica Stanford has always been very woke. She could just as easily be in the Labour Party. I am sure she wants Education to succeed but she also supports the Maorification agenda. No doubt Dr. Rata has given her some great advice but Erica is probably just cherry picking the bits she wants and discarding the rest with absolutely(as Dr Rata says) no idea where the rest will lead to. This is not the National Party that many grew up with and voted for. That is the only reason many of us keep plugging for ACT and NZF.
How on earth do such bills come to be floated? Do all mps assume somemone with more time and experience has vetted? If passed this bill will frighten from the taeching profession all objective types, the persons most likely to be good at maths and science, and already woefully lacking. Local tikanga, te ao, matauranga is not written down and will not be, so objective teachers no matter how able, cannot read up on and become knowledgeable. They will have to listen to or abdicate to hours of time wasting undefined rambling brain wash propogandised , politicised, waffle.
Want to "point fingers at.." then point them in the direction of [current] Minister of Education. Sorry a person who does not impress me with her demeanor towards the process of Government and her 'rule of the Ministry of Education'.
Stanford herself is not a highly experienced educator - as is required in ministerial posts.
Why should be surprised?
Just listen to Erica Stanford speak for a while and it all will become quite clear.
This wouldn’t be happening under a different Education Minister.
She’s the problem.
The sad thing is, the current E & T Act 2020 is equally as bad and who also was aware when that was introduced? But here's an opportunity to get us 'back on track', yet National clearly aren't using it. Michael is right, the young are our future and this is the most important thing that's come our way in several years. For those that missed the opportunity to submit, for goodness sake listen and read up about it and email our coalition politicians demanding they do something about it. If this goes through unchanged, we truly are stuffed as a nation and no amount of growth will save us. Are you listening Mr Luxon?
Stanford has no education professional experience AT ALL.. Did a recent woke degree, worked in McCully's electorate office, then won the seat. Folk in East Coast Bays must be quite silly - or exasperated. Useless Minister.
Stanford is like Willis. No professional qualifications or practical experience for the portfolios they hold. So they are totally reliant on the bureaucrats for advice and don't have the ability to argue back when required.
I thought the group Stanford setup which included Prof Rata was a good move but it looks like the ideologs in the Ministry of Education (and probably Minister Potaka) have run rough shod over Standford.
Unfortunately there are too many Ministers in Cabinet (esp National MPs) who are just out of their depth, as can be seen in the last day or so by what Simon Watts got up to.
My earlier reply to Peter that Luxon won't listen because he has cloth ears, like a puppet, wasn't posted because the means of operation of puppets as I described them (and by whom) were presumably unacceptable. I won't repeat them but leave it to readers' imagination. In short, Christopher Luxon has as much integrity and moral courage as a puppet and is as damaging to this country's future as the previous labour PM was. Nothing to choose between them.
Its looking SERIOUSLY as though Min of Ed staffers et al somewhere are corrupting law making... Need sorting and dismissal... asap
Reckon you're right. Nats have no credibility now. Matariki-ism. the religion now. The voices being heard are those indoctrinated with stupidity / ignorance.
I am assuming that Allen at 11.19 may have suggested that the whom would involve a Potaka pulling the strings or providing the motive force via some other mechanism as one might move the fingers in a glove ....
