Taupo district council is upgrading its joint agreement with locally iwi Ngāti Tūwharetoa to give them even more powers, more rights and more influence. It's been kept from the public until yesterday.
Iwi are extorting people already and using their links with Council to ban certain activities, and to charge them through the nose for access to certain rivers.

This is exactly what co-governance is all about and what the future is going to be for the whole country.
Are you O.K. with this Mr. Luxon, if not, what are you going to do about it?
Luxon and National must be getting a cut of the extorted monies!
National holds the Local Govt portfolio (Minister Simon Watts) - this anomaly must be fully explained to property owners. When was their approval for such actions requested by their local council ? Did property owners approve this action? Now rate payers - along with tax payers - are totally ignored.
There is a big push around taupo to get change in council. There are a whole lot of new councilors running and a couple of new candidates for mayor. David trewavas is under the spotlight and rightfully so. If you don't like this taupo residents, then get out and vote these new candidates into council. These candidates are not far left lunatics they are center candidates with a good dose of common sense.
Did he say controlling the lakes and rivers is "all well and good" ?? Only in NZ. What special powers and abilities do Maori have? My ancestors (I could say "tipuna", but they weren't Maori) were sailing, using and caring for waterways centuries before Maori even existed - And no one is asking me. I'll even do it cheaper.
