Under a proposed amendment to the Emissions Trading Scheme, landowners without the right ethnic credentials will be capped at converting just 25% of their land into pine plantations. But if your family tree fits the state’s preferred profile? You can go all in. Every inch. Plant, profit, and prosper.
Ask yourself: what the hell does tree planting have to do with bloodlines?
Apparently everything — if you’re dealing with a government too spineless to confront the racial favoritism infecting our laws. This isn’t about the environment. This is about codifying apartheid into land use — a quiet segregation enforced by bureaucracy.
They don’t even bother hiding it anymore. They call it “guardianship,” (Kaitiakitanga) as if one race has some mystical, exclusive bond with the land, and the rest of us are just tenants playing in someone else’s backyard. It’s a fairy tale — and a dangerous one.
Because while they’re preaching harmony, they’re carving the nation into ethnic categories with financial consequences.
You don’t need to be a political analyst to see what’s happening. This is privilege wrapped in policy. It’s not climate action — it’s a racial exemption scheme that rewards the few and penalizes everyone else.
And for what? Ancestral storytelling?
We live in one of the most ethnically diverse countries on Earth. Over 260 groups call this place home. Mixed families are the norm. Interbreeding has been happening since long before the Treaty was even scribbled down. So how, exactly, do we draw the line? DNA test kits? Government-approved genealogy charts?
The whole thing’s a scam. A land grab in slow motion.
And the man who’s ushering it in? Simon Watts, of the National Party. His Climate Change Response (Emissions Trading Scheme – Forestry Conversion) Amendment Bill has already passed its first reading. If it passes again, apartheid won’t just live in historical memory — it’ll be part of modern forestry law.
So where’s the outcry?
Where are the journalists hammering this? Where are the so-called conservatives drawing a line in the sand? Where are the so-called liberals who supposedly believe in equality?
Nowhere. Because speaking the truth in New Zealand has become a dangerous sport. Say one wrong word and you're labelled, harassed, blacklisted. So we just sit back while legislation builds a future based not on merit, but on ancestry.
But here's a fact no bureaucrat can paper over: if your last name determines what you're allowed to do with your own property — you’re not living in a free country. You’re living under a regime that plays favourites and hides behind polite silence.
And if you think this is the last law they’ll tweak to enforce ethnic double standards, think again. This is a blueprint. It’s apartheid 2.0, and the foundations are being poured while the country naps.
So here’s the line:
We stop it now, or we surrender the principle of one law for all.
There is no in-between.
No middle ground.
No nice way to dress it up.
If they want to turn land use into a racial issue, then we have to turn this into a national one — and push back hard.
Because once privilege becomes law, it’s no longer privilege — it’s power. And power like that never gives itself up voluntarily.
