The effect of Ardern’s Conversion Practices Prohibition Legislation Bill has irreversibly damaged young people’s lives and their families.
We seriously question how Ardern and her Labour MPs sleep at night. In fact, we don’t know how most of the MPs who were in parliament in 2022 sleep at night.
Friends and families are reeling at how quickly the transgender movement has become a slippery slope, gaining momentum, aided by legislation, and resulting in significant undesirable consequences. This bill criminalised anyone, including parents, doctors, teachers or counsellors, for trying to dissuade a child or young person from changing their gender. This bill was passed by a staggering vote of 112 to eight. It has caused many families much more than lost sleep.

You only need to watch 30 seconds to feel the pain.
A devastated father sees his transgender son on a Dr Phil McGraw TV episode for the first time. This public spectacle was in the US, but the reality is the same here in NZ. It’s just as painful and the numbers are appallingly high. So many Kiwis either have one of their own children, or a grandchild, niece or nephew, who is either gay and/or transgender. Families feel disempowered – left out of their child’s misguided decision to transition and ‘becoming their true self’ – resulting in utter frustration. Now there are sterile young women and men who cannot have normal sexual relationships, nor breast feed, and who will remain childless after being given powerful pharmaceuticals and what surgeons politely label ‘top or bottom’ surgery.
Listening and observing the rejection these families endure, let alone having to face the permanent damage done to the children/young person without their approval, is beyond belief.
This should not be celebrated. It should never be entertainment. And it should never be legislated.
The total numbers of Kiwi transgender youth are not recorded statistically due to under reporting, evolving self-identification and limited data. An estimated number is staggering.
In 2023 Census reported 0.7 per cent of adults (18+) identify as transgender (23,000 total), but youth rates are typically higher (one to two per cent total) due to greater visibility. If using the one to two per cent youth rate, that could be 10,200 trans youth. These are approximations – the actual numbers could be even higher. If the ratio among a random group of Kiwis is anything to go on, it is of greatest concern for the future of our Gen Z youth.
On 3 February ’22, then new National Party leader Christopher Luxon confirmed that National MPs would be allowed a conscience vote on the Conversion Practices Prohibition Legislation Bill. Luxon, a stated Christian, astonished many Christians and the more conservative voters when he expressed his support for the legislation and the LGBTQI+ community in New Zealand. He also stated that “there will be those with different views for different reasons across parliament. These sorts of issues are traditionally treated as conscience issues, and we determined as a caucus that this was the appropriate course in this instance.”
Simon Bridges, Simeon Brown, Melissa Lee, Todd McClay, Simon O’Connor, Chris Penk, Shane Reti and Michael Woodhouse were the only MPs in the House at the time who opposed this appalling legislation. These eight National Party MPs, having integrity, stood up for young people against a most liberal vocal Labour Party, who had the numbers.
Trump told the truth when he said there are only two sexes: male and female. Not so, some left-wing activists and scholars argue. Their funded and supported perspective by organisations like the Human Rights Agenda, Rainbow Youth, InsideOUT, Q Youth and Gender Minorities Aotearoa state that gender exists on a spectrum: a common refrain used in their advocacy – sex ‘isn’t a monolith’ and isn’t limited to a fixed number. It is fluid and there could be up to 80 different genders.
What utter nonsense!
Matt Doocey, the National Minister for Mental Health said he has young children and he can’t wait till they decide what gender they choose! What hope is there for any change to protect young minds and bodies by the current government when this type of belief is stated so boldly by so many.
Before more lives are damaged, the truth of this abomination needs to be told and the legislation repealed. The sooner the better.
Thank you to those who support Penny Marie of https://letkidsbekids.nz/, who is getting to the root of this agenda, exposing the insidiousness of the legislation on preteens and adolescents and the worth fighting against it.
