Rawiri Waititi is the MP with a gripe about police powers to crack down on guns and gangs (but perhaps there are others)

The headline on a One News report – Police use new powers to hit gangs, but not all MPs happy – alerted the public to political concerns about search powers granted to the police to crack down on gangs.

Actually, it was an RNZ report but One News has republished it, and it kicked off:

Cam Slater: Proof of Police Gaslighting on Guns

For years the public and the firearms community have been gaslit by Police and their lickspittles in the media over gun crime. The gaslighting ramped up after the Christchurch massacre. We’ve all been told that the Police need to crack down on licensed firearms owners because they tell us they have proof that guns are getting to criminals via legitimate and licensed firearms owners. No proof is ever proffered, only hearsay anecdotes designed to prove the case.

But now someone has made a study of gun crime for his PhD thesis. It is revealing and alarming at the same time. It shows categorically that Police, politicians and media have been gaslighting us all.

■ The online news service BusinessDesk reported the result of the first round of funding handouts under the $55 million Pravda Project, officially known as the Public Interest Journalism Fund. They include:

More than $2.4 million to NZME, Maori Television, Newshub, Pacific Media Network and 11 “support partners” to train and develop 25 cadet Maori, Pasifika and “diverse” journalists. The latter category will presumably include those who identify as transgender or non-binary and other aggrieved minorities that we haven’t got names for yet.
