They’ve made some terrible calls, especially as regards mass inwards immigration. Here are a few things that get my goat. They really annoy me. Start with the strange coalition between open borders Left-wing progressives and chamber of commerce types (some, but fewer these days, nominally conservative) about how ‘there are jobs locals won’t do’. A mere moment’s thought tells you that’s wrong. Such claims aren’t that far off the ante-bellum, pre-US Civil War queries from some in the south about ‘who will pick the cotton if we end slavery?’ It’s simple. In market economies all jobs will be filled if you offer to pay enough. All of them without exception. It’s just supply and demand.

The heavy hand of justice just came down a little harder on illegal immigration. The Department of Labor just warned all 50 governors to restrict migrants from getting unemployment benefits or risk losing federal grant money. “[I]t is critical that we ensure American taxpayer dollars do not go towards encouraging or rewarding illegal immigration to the United States,” Lori Chavez-DeRemer, Secretary of Labor, wrote in a letter dated April 24 as reported by Daily Caller.

DTNZ: 400K+ illegal immigrants with criminal convictions released into US cities

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has released more than 435,000 undocumented migrants with criminal convictions into cities across the U.S., according to a letter sent by ICE Deputy Director Patrick Lechleitner to Texas Rep. Tony Gonzales.

The letter revealed that as of July 21, there were 662,566 illegal immigrants with criminal histories on ICE’s non-detained docket, meaning they await immigration proceedings without being held in custody. Of these, 435,719 are convicted criminals, and an additional 226,847 face pending criminal charges.

Victor Davis Hanson: The Ironies of Illegal Immigration

Mexico does not explain why its citizens wish to leave their birth country — or why they are eager to enter a country ridiculed by the Mexican press and government.

Estimates suggest that there are eleven million to 13 million Mexican citizens currently living in the United States illegally. Millions more emigrated previously and are now U.S. citizens.

A recent poll revealed that one-third of Mexicans (34 percent) would like to emigrate to the United States. With Mexico having a population of about 130 million, that amounts to some 44 million would-be immigrants.

Such massive potential emigration into the United States makes no sense.

Barend Vlaardingerbroek: Cutting the crap – dealing with illegal migrants in the Mediterranean

There has been a lot of hand-wringing over the fate of illegal migrants who board flimsy boats or old rust-buckets somewhere on the North African (usually Libyan) coast and set out to sea in the expectation of being ‘rescued’ and taken to Lampedusa or some southern European port, from where they hope to make their way to any of a number of destinations.

Those intent on getting into Britain spend some time at a squatter camp in Caen before getting themselves smuggled in on Channel-crossing lorries. But sometimes these grandiose plans get scuttled and they end up in the drink, sometimes because of the boat capsizing and sometimes because other illegal migrants throw them overboard. (One lot went down in a boat in which they had been locked in the hold last week.)

Socialists are not nationalists, they’re internationalists. And they know that the nation state operates as a prophylactic against the “world-mindedness” they mean to encourage. 

Their underlying agenda is to collapse the nation state into a global multi-culture, then argue that since we’re all one world now anyway, a one-world government is “for the best.”
