Dr Robert Bartholomew: The Māori Astrology Craze - Stop Teaching Pseudoscience to Our Kids

Astrology is alive and well in some New Zealand classrooms thanks to the Education Ministry’s push to give indigenous knowledge equal standing with scientific knowledge.

In recent years government ministries have produced an array of online resources intended to enlighten teachers and students on the wonders of the Māori Lunar Calendar or Maramataka. Unfortunately, most of these resources are woefully uncritical and fail to mention that there is very little science to support it.

JC: Kiwis Don’t Use MSM for News

The headline to this article will probably surprise very few. For quite some time now the news media in this country have decided that they are not interested in providing or presenting news in a way that is digestible for the majority of Kiwis. Their aim is to polarise the news, and therefore their potential audiences, to the maximum. In doing so they are portraying themselves as ‘holier than thou’ and ignoring their audiences’ wants or needs. They are in fact operating as a self-serving lawless cabal putting themselves above everyone else.

John Porter: Can We Fight Critical Race Theory?

Hello, it’s John Porter on Bay FM and today I’m talking about Critical Race Theory (CRT).

No, not heard of CRT? Well, it’s a significant issue around the world these days and seems to be becoming embedded in the thinking of certain sectors of our society.

Critical Race Theory (CRT) seeks to explain the multitude of ways that race and racism have become embedded in modern societies. The core idea is that we need to look beyond individual acts of racism and make structural changes to prevent and remedy racial discrimination.

Barrie Saunders: TV layoffs not a threat to democracy

A few weeks ago I joined some contemporaries by abandoning the near sixty year habit of watching nightly TV news. I dropped it because I felt it did not give me real information that I had not acquired from other media sources, including some I pay for – The Economist, the NZ Herald, The Atlantic and The Platform. Free media sources I look at online include Stuff, RNZ, Bassett Brash and Hide, PointOfOrder, Newsroom and the BBC’s Radio Four.

Robert MacCulloch: Newshub and NZ Herald report Misleading Garbage about ACT's Van Veldon not following Treasury advice

In their rush to discredit the new government (which our MainStream Media regard as illegitimate and having no right to enact the democratic will of voters) the NZ Herald and Newshub are arguing ACT's Deputy Leader Booke van Veldon is not following Treasury advice regarding the coalition's desire to repeal Fair Pay Agreements.

Derek Mackie: Mission Impossible - Rogue MSM

Wellington - Mission Inception

Extra Special Agent John Campbell, of the Impossible Mainstream-media Force (IMF), left his office, his steely eyes darting up and down the wet and windy Wellington street.
Behind those nerdy glasses and that government employee appearance lurked a man who’d stop at nothing to manipulate, emotionalise and “enhance” a good story to within an inch of its life.

Campbell turned the collar up on his raincoat then slipped inside the battered telephone box. Activating the hidden panel, he scanned his thumbprint then entered the 8-digit security code.

Robert MacCulloch: Does New Zealand's Mainstream Media not Respect the Election Result?

The front page the NZ Herald is running today [17/10/2023] has this headline and this photo [below]:

Is this an unflattering photo of Chris Luxon, or what? What's with the dark foreboding background; the gnarling teeth? Using the word "axed" conjures up an image of him as running around with a weapon. What will he chop off?

Robert MacCulloch: Labour Party contradictions

David Parker Contradicts Megan Woods who Contradicts Andrew Little on Foreign Buyers

There's nothing wrong with National's proposed 15% tax on foreigners buying houses in this country selling for over $2 million. But Labour's propaganda machine & our mainstream media's quoting of so-called "top economists" and "leading academic tax experts" to discredit National has gone into overdrive.

Stuart Smith: The Creeping Loss of Our Freedoms

The fundamental human right of freedom of speech is being threatened in New Zealand, and, if we fail to resist, we risk losing it entirely. The recent shutdown of Posie Parker’s Let Women Speak tour by protestors serves as a clear illustration of this danger. Another instance is Julian Batchelor’s nationwide tour promoting his booklet Stop Co-Governance, where his public meeting in Dunedin was forcefully disrupted by protesters who disagreed with his perspectives.

Mike Hosking: The political choices are becoming clearer, let's see who wins

The chunk of the media who are still in love with the Labour Party are on some sort of campaign right now to undermine Chris Luxon.

They have taken two events they perceive to be major issues and tried to turn them into even more major issues.

One was the Te Puke post. Two, was the tax policy confusion. Neither are big deals; both are beltway only of interest to those obsessed with the Wellington political environment.

Guy Hatchard: How the Nz Government Misleads Us Through Payments to Msm and Others

Spot the difference between a government funded mainstream newspaper summarising a Covid journal paper and an independent physician/medical educator.

On July 14th Stuff newspaper Keith Lynch Explainer Editor and Kate Newton Senior Data Journalist authored an article Covid-19 NZ: Why the rising tide of cases doesn’t tell the whole story. This was a long article attempting to analyse the current Covid wave in New Zealand.

The article references a preprint study from Qatar entitled: “Protection of SARS-CoV-2 natural infection against reinfection with the Omicron BA.4 or BA.5 subvariants” which analyses Covid outcomes depending on the subject’s prior vaccination and infection history.

mRNA Vaccination Ultimately Increases Vulnerability to Covid

The real substance of the referenced large Qatar study was very interesting but simply not reported by Stuff.

Roger Childs: Getting the History Right: Confiscated Land: The media’s need to tell the truth about our past

Written and spoken history has two key elements — facts and opinions.

Historians do not dispute that the fact that Treaty of Waitangi (Te Tiriti o Waitangi) was signed in 1840, however, opinions differ over the significance of the Treaty and how it should be recognized today. It is accepted that mainstream media will publish opinions about our past, but it is incumbent upon them to tell the truth on the indisputable realities of what happened.
