NZCPR Submission: Marine and Coastal Area (Customary Marine Title) Amendment Bill

Submissions on the Marine and Coastal Area (Customary Marine Title) Amendment Bill close today 15 October 2024 just before midnight.

The Bill is in response to the misinterpretation of the law by the judiciary which had resulted in the entire coastline being readied for tribal control.

Through the Bill, the Coalition is attempting to strengthen the law so it to delivers what Parliament intended when the Marine and Coastal Area Act was originally introduced in 2011.

Below is a copy of the submission sent in by the New Zealand Centre for Political Research.

If you would like to send in a submission but haven’t done so, please feel free to use the arguments we have presented below.

NZCPR Submission: Local Government Maori Ward Bill

Submissions on the Local Government (Electoral Legislation and Maori Wards and Maori Constituencies) Amendment Bill close on Wednesday 29 May at 11.59pm.

This is the Bill that reintroduces petition rights for Maori wards, to enable voters to call for a referendum so the community can decide whether they want their councils divided along racial lines.

This democratic right was, of course, abolished by the Labour Government in 2021. Through this Bill, the Coalition Government is restoring local democracy.

We would urge anyone who supports the Bill to send in a submission saying so. Full details can be found by clicking HERE.

Since the NZCPR strongly supports the Bill and has sent in a submission that includes two suggestions to improve the Bill, we are sharing those details below.

NZCPR SUBMISSION: Water Services Entities Bill

Please note: We would like to encourage as many New Zealanders as possible to send in a submission opposing Three Waters. Short submissions are acceptable. You are more than welcome to consider the following submission as a template. Please use your own words if possible so it is counted as a separate submission - and not lumped in with this one!

Our NZCPR analysis of the Bill can be found HERE, Frank Newman's excellent evaluation is HERE, and the link to read the Bill and send in your submission is  HERE. Hard copy submissions can be mailed (freepost) and if you have any difficulties making your submission, the Committee Secretariat can help - phone 04-817-9520.
