Cam Slater: No Deal for You, Chippy

At the Fieldays in Hamilton, Winston Peters has again reinforced that, despite the leadership change in Labour, there will be no deals for them with NZ First. He was unequivocal: there will be no deal with Labour, at all.

He said he did have “a bit of a yarn to Winston Peters over lunch”.

They largely talked about the weather.

Peters, whose party NZFirst had a booth at Fieldays, said Hipkins approached him to say “hello” while he was eating lunch.

“We talked about the weather … It’s lovely and sunny, if you want to get a sun tan, that’s the place to be.”

He said Hipkin’s [sic] leadership of the Labour Party had not changed his position on any potential for NZFirst to work again with Labour after the coming election.

Since being voted out of a coalition Government with Labour at the 2020 election, Peters has been trying to create distance between NZFirst and the Government by suggesting Labour was failing to consult him on contentious policies, such as work around “co-governance”.

“We found out so many things that we were never told, which we had to be told, and those things were alarming to us … and we asked them questions at the time, and they did not tell us the truth,” he said, on Wednesday.

“Nobody gets to lie to me twice,” Peters said.”

“We are not going to go into any coalition or any party that can’t keep its word.“
Stuff

For those who like to use false quotes and claim otherwise, Winston Peters has categorically and unequivocally ruled out doing any sort of deal with Labour, no matter who leads them or what they look like after the election.

It is there in black and white. It is unambiguous.

If you want a change of government after the election then you have three choices. You can vote for either National, Act or NZ First.

My ideal scenario would be for a three-way coalition of those three, split 30/10/10. That way no party has too much power or not enough. How much of each of those three party’s promises will be met in such an arrangement is entirely up to you as the voter. If you give one party just 5% of the vote then you can’t expect very many of their promises to be met. But it is entirely up to you.

Vote wisely, but only for those three.

This is toooo much, and the scenario is hypocritical irony of the highest order.

Winston Peters is one of the principal reasons we've descended into the current cesspit of one-party rule, and one of the most incompetent, destructive and divisive governments in (my) living memory. Never, ever, must Mr Peters be allowed to forget what he bequeathed NZ in 2017, or to gloss over it.

Because of a snub and a grudge, Peters refused to work with National, despite his formative political years being nurtured and indulged by them. So, even though the Nats received the majority of votes from the national elections in 2017, they were prevented from forming a government in coalition with partners ??? by ... Winston Peters.

Then we had 2020, and the nearly three years since will soon be relegated to history. What part Mr Peters may play in it remains to be seen, but NZ First will never get my vote.

Hear, hear Hugh. Winston talks some sense, but he has burnt his bridges and he has no succession policy. So it's ACT for me.

Good Sir, you make valid point, that many KoneWone's would agree on. In fact between this domain & that of The Platform (when they interview Winny P & post to YouTube) - you will find posted in the "comments section" anything & everything that is scathing" of Winston. If you ever come across a KoneWone, who would vote for him , now, ask them - how old are you & why would you waste that vote.

His greatest source of votes in the past was Grey Power and he still "targets them" now.

The same goes for Shane Jones, who "spent taxpayer money of the regional development fund to which we have not seen a shred of evidence that it was money well spent. Another who is not worth a "new vote".

Winston's affinity (or lack there of) with National goes back to when Jim Bolger was PM - to which one would need to research MSM of the day, to find the reasons - but I recall the "split" was acrimonious - "to whit"- Winston never forgave nor forgot.

Also, W.P. "sided with Helen Clark" at some stage during her 9 year tenure, the same period that a certain Jacinda Ardern served (HC) as a Communications Staffer, on the 9th floor.

From ANON.

Still pushing the Winston Peters barrow Cam. It is irrelevant who he will work with because thank God he and his party will never be in power again.

Just read the Auditor Generals report on the Provincial Growth fund and then convince me that they were a responsible part of the 2017-2020 govt.

Bribery and corruption would be too nice a description of it.
