JC: Peace on Earth and Goodwill Towards Trump

Christmas is not that far away. It will be upon us before we know it. It is the season of ‘peace on earth and goodwill to men’. Although the commercial aspect of Christmas appears to arrive earlier each year, in terms of merchandising, this year Santa has also made his presence felt earlier than usual. Donald J Trump was elected on a platform of, among other things, fulfilling the role of a peacemaker. He has proven to be more than true to his word.

Since being sworn in as president about nine months ago he has succeeded in defusing a number of conflicts around the world without the use of military force. Trump has replaced military strategy with an economic model. He simply involves leaders of the countries in the spat and lets them know that if they continue their war they will not be able to trade with America. This is proving to be more effective than the use of guns, thereby saving lives in the process.

What Trump is effectively doing is making a deal, something he has spent his whole life doing. No one knows the art of deal-making better than he. Leading the largest economy in the world, as he does, gives him economic leverage few other countries have. Trump is using it to great effect while the Russia-Ukraine slugfest continues.

Why can this tactic not be used in that conflict? In that case the circumstances are a little different. In 2021 the amount of trade Russia did with America was worth 38 billion dollars. Since the start of the war, due to sanctions applied on Russia, trade has slipped to less than four billion dollars in 2024. The best hope of a cessation, therefore, is the applying of more sanctions to further inflict pain on the Russian economy.

Trump is showing that his achievements have more to do with his business acumen than him as a politician. The art of deal making is something he learned and perfected through his background in real estate. This is where those on the left of politics are at a serious disadvantage. The nearest they’ve ever got to a business deal is to visit the corner dairy to buy a bottle of milk.

You can say what you like about Trump but the reality is he holds a masterclass in real power world politics. By making America strong both economically and militarily, he has given himself real leverage. Making friends with Arab nations has increased this leverage. Getting Netanyahu to apologise to Qatar for the attack on their soil, made through a phone call from the White House, earned him the respect of neighbouring Arab states. This is what real leadership is.

Initially it was the Abraham Accords, achieved in his first term, that some Arab countries joined. Following his latest endeavours there are now more Arab countries wanting to sign up. Trump finds loss of life in wars abhorrent and a total waste. This, more than anything, is what drives his peace agenda. He doesn’t waste time like lefties do lobbying for something that doesn’t exist, like a Palestinian state. He spends his time on trying to find a positive outcome for the world’s problems.

His achievements are both domestic and international. Domestically he has closed the southern border and he’s sending federal troops to clean up crime and violence in mainly left-wing run states. He’s bringing society back to its social norms and values, while left-wing activists judges continually attempt to thwart him. The public can see through this, hence the Democrats finding themselves in the hopeless position they are.

Internationally he has also had success in bringing an end to other skirmishes. He brokered a US peace deal in May, ending a 12-day war between Israel and Iran. In June leaders from Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo signed a US brokered peace agreement to end their decades-long deadly conflict. India and Pakistan was another conflict Trump was involved in and although he did not end the conflict he played a role in stopping the fighting.

In late July, Thailand and Cambodia agreed to a ceasefire following several days of border clashes. Malaysia also played a part in brokering this peace. Trump threatened both sides with huge tariffs if the fighting continued. In August. Trump hosted the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan which brought an end to another decades-long deadly conflict. These two countries have been at war since 1988.

The agreement gives America exclusive rights to create a major transport corridor that will be named the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity. It is through a mountainous stretch of Armenian territory known as the Zangezur Corridor. The securing of the route marks a serious setback for Russia and Iran in the South Caucasus, a region that sits at the crossroads of trade and energy flows that both countries have sought to dominate.

While achieving peace on earth, Trump is also creating goodwill from others towards what he is trying to achieve. The countries involved in the Middle East process are many and varied. Some leaders like Trump more than others but they all saw the opportunity that his peace plan offered and got on board. This how peace is achieved: by leaders putting aside their personal differences in the interests of creating a better world and a better future.

The interim government in Gaza needs to be put in place as soon as possible so the horrors of Hamas holding public executions of their own people can be stopped. This, of course, is what has been happening all along but the left-wing media were only too happy to misrepresent the situation and put all the blame on Israel. If the Palestinian people come to their senses, they stand to gain enormously from what is planned for the future. They have rebuffed these opportunities on previous occasions but they must not do so now. Commonsense must override their hatred of another country.

There will be a rebuilding of Gaza – the money coming largely from the pockets of the wealthy Arab states. This is as it should be. The Arab countries are pretty much now all against the likes of Hamas. The recently appointed leader in Syria is reportedly rooting out Hezbollah. The only beneficiaries of war are those who make money from it, such as the American industrial complex. Everyone else is the poorer with loss of life and economic ruin. The world needs an end to the futility of war.

Politicians don’t end wars: they lack the skills required to do so. Churchill and Trump are possible exceptions, but I don’t regard either of them as politicians in the true sense of the word. These are two men who are/were able to grasp reality and come up with ways to deal with it. They assembled people around them suitably equipped to achieve their goals. These are the types of people the world could do with a lot more of: strong, determined and committed to sorting out the issues confronting society.

Trump is achieving peace on earth and he is creating goodwill in the process. It is unfortunate that similar goodwill is absent from a section of those in his homeland who only seem to know venom and hate, most of which they direct at him. History will be the judge of both. I am pretty sure who will come out on top.

It will be another win for Trump.
