This article is at odds with former contributions from Cam Slater and Peter Williams. While both made valid points, this article sets out to analyse why Luxon made the right call in giving Tova her own ‘gotcha’ moment, which she so richly deserved. Luxon has better things to do than waste time with an imbecilic journalist.
Toxic Tova has just been dealt a hard lesson. The lady has been around long enough to have learnt the skills required to conduct an interview. She probably did learn them but decided they weren’t for her. Like many journalists with a far-left bent, the true purpose of an interview simply doesn’t suit their adversarial style when it comes to interviewing someone they don’t like.
The true object of an interview, when conducted in a professional manner, is to draw information from the interviewee for the benefit of the listeners or viewers. Tova, like many on the left, shows no interest in this type of interview and, as a result, no interest in the listeners. Maybe they lack the intellectual wherewithal to do so –that is certainly the impression they give – and so they resort to the simpler ‘gotcha’ style. In Tova’s own little mind, she no doubt thinks she’s the star of the show, but this is of no benefit to the person being interviewed or the audience looking to learn something from the discussion.
The problem is, by reason of her interviewing style, she comes across more like a fallen star. Breakfast has been historically littered with these leftie ‘meteors’, including the present ones. You have to wonder at the IQ of the audience who bother to watch the programme.
Toxic Tova’s appointment to the programme was always going to be a disaster. Her Today FM Breakfast Show was, according to her, going to destroy Hosking on ZB. The reality was that Today barely lasted until tomorrow. When it was rightfully canned she used the eff word against the company to shield herself from her own professional inadequacies. Tova epitomises everything that’s wrong with left-wing journalism and why they lag far behind their right-wing equivalents when it comes to attracting an audience.
Her latest faux pas has been her treatment of the prime minister. Christopher Luxon is not the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to dealing with journalists, which has led some to form the view that the problem lies with him. While there might be some truth to this, in my view it is beside the point. His choosing not to appear on the show is solely down to Tova’s disrespectful attitude. A ‘gotcha’ style interview is entirely inappropriate when the subject of your interview is the prime minister. This childish point-scoring behaviour is an insult to those who are listening and hoping for a mature chat.
Why should Luxon be bothered to turn up to be rudely spoken to by some journalist who thinks she’s God’s gift to her trade. If Luxon wants to play in a sandpit he’ll visit a kindergarten. I applaud Luxon for taking the stance he has. He’s showing some much needed spine. I think he might be taking the first tentative steps required to get the party back on track. Time will tell.
TV One, when it comes to news and information, has proved itself to be a hack organisation, full of leftie journalists who access their news from similar hack outfits in America and elsewhere. The CEO has the temerity to inform us that findings from their OWN investigations show there is no bias in their reporting. It’s somewhat alarming that the CEO’s level of intelligence appears to mirror that of her staff.
Look globally and the ABC (latest ratings are dreadful), BBC (forever being criticised for bias), CNN (their own political polls are at odds with their narrative) and MSNBC (where the leftist lunatics are running the asylum) and the 1News scenario is replicated in every instance.
The left news media spend most of their time in the gutter. Tova, Maiki (who Winston recently told he wasn’t going to answer inane questions from TV One and who is now in trouble for using foul language), Jenna and Jack Tame, plus thousands more around the globe, all spout the ideology of the left. It is a failing strategy and the proof can be found in their ever declining audience numbers along with similarly declining revenue. But like bees to a honeypot they are addicted.
Toxic Tova came to the Breakfast show from Stuff. The prime minister is effectively telling her to ‘get stuffed’. Good on him. Tova turned a ‘gotcha’ moment on herself. How clever is that? All the kudos goes to Luxon.

Who watches Breakfast anyway? Those who contribute to the country are normally getting ready for work or school or something else useful. Sitting down to watch Tova or Jack or any of the other left wing propagandists at that time of the day is for losers.
You see the heat rising in Lusin every time he gets any kind of question he doesn’t like. A man supposedly good with numbers and people can’t even answer the most basic question. And now he has run off to sook. I looked in the dictionary for the definition of “leader” and it’s the opposite of how this dude behaves.
I thing Luxon didn’t quit Breakfast interviews because he was uncomfortable ( he doesn’t strike me as a very emotionally driven person), but because the host was hellbent on giving him zero opportunity to put his point across. Then why bother? Frankly, I don’t blame the Tovas and John Campbells of the world, they are what they are. But by employing this type of journalists in the positions they are the state broadcaster is declaring a war on balance and objectivity. Now this is dangerous.
Anon 402pm unfamiliar with the function of an interview! Watching too much American TV, fella?
Bring back Paul Hendry to TV breakfast. At least he had a good sense of humour and could laugh at himself
