Inflation is up over 3% - not as bad as the Aussies but not helped by Trump.
But wage growth is 2%.
The cost of buying stuff is going up quicker than we can afford to pay for it by working. Our real wages are a bit shite.
You know when Luxon set the election date in January and said people needed to "feel" the recovery happening?
They're not. That's why the right track/wrong track poll results look the way they do. Most of us reckon we're heading in the wrong direction because they are.
And people, generally and rightly, link their individual circumstances to that of the country.
Now some of you might be annoyed by this, but these are facts - you can't argue with them.
However, they do not mean Labour is getting back into government. Far from it.
Elections are about choices. Has the other guy hawking his wares got something better to offer me?
Labour's got three doctors visits at already-stretched GP clinics and world of financial and tax uncertainty with the Greens and Te Pati Māori at their side.
As I've said from the beginning, this Coalition will be re-elected because they're relatively stable and Kiwis mostly give first timers a second shot.
These wage/inflation numbers are not good for them, but they're not fatal either.
The risk of the unknown, the devil you don't know, especially during a crisis, will in the end get Luxon re-elected as Prime Minister
I still don't think Kiwis, when they come to polling booths on in November, will want to risk getting out of the frying pan only to end up in the fire.

Nat .does stand a chance - if Luxon supports equal citizenship loud and clear . Very simple.
Of course they do. They have more donations from fat cat businessmen than any other party. They have mouthpieces in multiple privately run oligarch funded media outlets. And they have wingmen blog outlets like kiwi blog, various substacks and now places like the platform. Rich people with special interests don’t want National to fail and they’re putting their money forward at a scale that shows exactly how serious they are about protecting their special interests. You don’t get a $22 billion taxpayer funded road to nowhere without stumping up some cash!
Since National have come to power, 40,000 jobs have disappeared, while business failures at at 14 year high with factories and shops closing around the country Auckland unemployment at 7%, which doesn’t include people out of work who want to work but aren’t eligible for the benefit. 3% of kiwis have fled the country.
Yeah, let’s vote these folks back in. They have the track record!

Does transparent mean Luxon too scared to talk about policy and performance to the point where he only visits safe spaces now? 17 months since he’s been interviewed on policy and performance? Don’t get me started on bravely-ran-away Seymour.

Unfortunately I agree with Ryan. Despite their performance, with right wing media mouthpieces planted everywhere, they might have a shot.
Amazingly, for all the PM's complaints about media bias, when I did an interview for TVNZ on the Reserve Bank's OCR decision, Luxon's office didn't like it. I got a call from the head of the network telling me the parts the PM didn't like would be edited out. The Nats, and PM in paticular, have done more to kill free speech in NZ than anyone, in cahoots with the big end of town - who wrote defamation threats - and called my boss - when they disliked my commentary. At least Lux can call his mate Key who can in turn Joyce now at the Herald to pull stories he doesn't like.
Well, it is either the coalition or the previous lot that wrecked the economy and divided the country.
Seymour and Peter’s trade on division so I’d say the answer to the question is obvious to everyone who hasn’t fallen down a rabbit hole.
