NZ colonized by the French would be a very different county today. No Treaty hysteria.

There is a great deal of this cancel culture going on . Maori were supposed to have been living in an idyllic state before Europeans came - no cannabalisn , no infanticide , no slavery , no mass slaughter on the Chatham Is, no warfare , no subjugation of women. Just a South Pacific paradise of love and peace .

I am close to abandoning the search for truth in the steam-roller approach of the media to any or all attempt to face facts and who publish only disinformation, fabrication and blatant lies in order to strengthen the dominance a minor proportion of our population has on the rest of us. Most Maori are included in "the rest of us." The sinister power of the iwi is aided by"fellow-travellers" too blind to see the truth or in the game for personal gain.
It is heartening to see the truth uncovered by so many who keep struggling against the stranglehold enjoyed by the deluded media and I guess one can only hope truth will percolate through in time.

Like most citizens my knowledge of NZ history was very shallow. About 40 years ago I began to suspect we were being fed a very screened version of maori aspects. It has got worse, Cook's encounter at Gisborne, Parihaka, Rangiaowhia all rewritten. I read the readily available innocuous sources, Cook's log, Logan Campbell, Wakefield, Maning, Polak, accounts of the Boyd, etc all of which gave glimpses of the true horrors of early maori life. Cook tried hard to deny cannibalism but takeaways in a passing canoe resolved doubt. As did the later devouring. of crew members. He was dispirited by the complete elimination of locals between visits. The account, including by his son, of Te Rauparaha's predations similarly sobering. The concept that maori were a coordinated sovereign nation quite absurd. I wonder how many of today's myriad activist maori have read these and less restrained sources. Fortunately for modern maori the civilised sensitivities of 19th century Europeans avoided the detail recording of many of the most gross practices. Like infanticide. And despatch of slaves for the hangi or for their carved faces...With all govt and Council agencies laced with pro maori propoganda advancement 5th columnists the chances of widespread objective knowledge are maintained low.
